"The Heart of Home: Why I Adore My Carers"

Let me tell you something from the heart. I absolutely love my carers. Each one brings their own spark, and together, they make my world brighter in ways I never expected. Take this morning, for example. I was in one of those “I don’t want to get up” moods, you know the kind. But in walks my carer with her usual warm smile and says gently, “I think the bedding could do with a change.”

That was her clever little nudge. While she got to work refreshing the sheets, I shuffled off to the bathroom. By the time I returned, the bed looked so inviting I almost dove back in. She smiled again and said, “Well, if you’re getting into a clean bed, I think it’s best you have a shower too.” Touché. So, shower it was—and we both ended up laughing until our sides ached. Then came breakfast. I protested, “I’m not hungry.” But she replied, ever calm and knowing, “Try just one round of toast. It’s best to take something light with your tablets.” I gave in. “Alright, just one.”

Moments later, out comes a slice of toast topped with ham and melted cheese. Suddenly, I was hungry. That “one” slice turned into two, and I couldn’t stop smiling, because once again, she knew what I needed before I did. That’s what my carers do. They care. Not just in ticking off tasks, but in bringing life, laughter, and love into my home. We sing (sometimes badly), dance in the living room (because why not?), and chat like lifelong friends. Even on my low days, they show up with sunshine in their pockets. They lift me, make me feel seen and valued, and remind me there’s joy to be found even in the small things.

And then there are the surprises. Like the day they took me to the coast. See the photo? What a beautiful day it was, blue skies, sea air, and plenty of smiles. That’s what surprise trips do. They create memories and remind you that life can still hold wonder. I look forward to every visit. Every carer. Every laugh, every shared story, every quiet moment of understanding. They came into my life when I needed them most, and now, I can’t imagine a day without them.

I’m not just cared for I’m cherished. And that is the greatest blessing of all.
