Period of care: late March 2024 to 17th June 2024. We were promised two carers four times per day, and this did happen; however, the personnel kept changing which was unsettling for both patient and family.
Visits were supposed to be up to 30 minutes, but in practice, the carers rarely stayed longer
than 10 minutes, sometimes less. In the early weeks, they seemed very unwilling to change bedding; consequently, the patient's room smelt unsavoury. After many requests from the patient's family, this eventually improved.
On the day of the patient's death, we found the carers' behaviour completely unacceptable. They refused to leave the premises until they had telephoned the patient's daughter, who was out with her child and dog, to tell her "Your Dad's dead?". She found this profoundly upsetting and had to be helped and comforted by strangers in the park. This phone call was completely unnecessary as her mother was at home and would have told her in a more appropriate way.
