Our family’s experience with Kemble at Home has been overwhelmingly positive. Our current care team are kind, conscientious, skilled and supportive. The management team work hard to ensure that we almost always have our regular carers and try their best to adapt to extra needs.

Kemble at Home has been providing care to my father for the last four years, and we have been very happy with the quality of that care.
He has a small team of dedicated carers, some of whom have been caring for him since February 2019; they all make a considerable difference to his quality of life.
The
service is reliable, and communication between Kemble, my father and our family is excellent.
Dad is treated with courtesy and respect and has never had cause to be dissatisfied with the service provided or any of the individuals involved.
Amongst other duties, Kemble is responsible for the safe administration of Dad's medication, and their professionalism has recently prevented a medication error.
As a retired nurse, I have high expectations and am rather difficult to please. Happily, over the last four years, Kemble at Home has continued to meet these high standards of care.
Reply from Jason Walker, Registered Manager at Kemble at HomeDear Lorna, thank you for your review. We are so pleased that you happy with the service we are delivering to your father. I know his team is very fond of him and enjoy supporting him in his own home.

My father was suddenly in need of daily care in his home and my family needed immediate help to provide an appropriate amount of care for him. Kemble at Home were willing and able to jump on board within a few days of my enquiry. The service we received was always friendly and accommodating, flexible
to suit rapidly changing needs, and completely transparent. Communication was great at all times, which was much appreciated, and all the staff were professional with my father and my family and communicated with one another. We had a small dedicated team looking after my father so he got used to familiar faces and so did we. The staff were also able to make referrals or guide us through contacting relevant services available to us, for example, occupational therapy and district nurses. I think the cost of the care was good value, and the pricing was very clear. I am very grateful to the team for all their help and support at a very challenging time for our family.

Superb care and compassion. Kemble at Home really listens and more importantly, hears. So happy we have chosen Kemble at Home for Dad. We feel that he is receiving 'home from home' care and love. Well done to the management for your attention to detail and kindness at such a difficult time for our family
and for choosing to employ such superb carers.

Kemble at Home were amazing. They couldn’t have done more and been more helpful if they tried. They helped me to work through a maelstrom of information and options and were an incredible source of support and information. Their care staff were all wonderful and the office was so lovely to deal with.
I absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for help/carers.

I have been using Kemble at Home care for a few months now as I have a form of Parkinson's that leaves me with very poor mobility. We have a carer for an hour for four mornings a week. They are all excellent – professional, kind and efficient. They help with my shower, making the bed, and other chores
around the house. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. In addition, they arrive on time and I always know from the rota who to expect. I would one hundred per cent recommend Kemble to other people. It means that my husband who has to do a lot of care these days can have a well-earned rest.

We have engaged Kemble's live-in services for several years now. All the carers have been considerate and caring and have treated our mother, who has Alzheimer's disease, with dignity. The 2 ladies who are currently on rotation are exceptional: we trust their integrity, they are professional in their
approach, easy for my sister and me to work with, cheerful and helpful. This enables Mum to remain living in her own home and, for us, her daughters, to spend time with Mum during our frequent visits and to deal with all that's entailed with running a rural, character property!
Reply from Jason Walker, Head of Training & Development at Kemble at HomeDear Wendy, thank you for your review and we are thrilled that the support for your mother is going so well. We will feedback your comments to your mother's current team. Best wishes. Jason

First impressions attention to detail are essential for me when purchasing goods or a service. Kemble at Home impressed me with their 'tell us how we can help and we will do our best to do it' approach. After 12 weeks I have a team of ladies who travel 10 miles from their office along narrow lanes to
my house, who have cheerfully learnt my routine. I am deaf so lip-read - Kemble sourced masks with a clear panel in them for the carers to wear which is brilliant. I am kept informed if the carer is going to be late or if it is a different lady to the one on the booking detail which is emailed to me weekly. I have to be supervised walking outside, while the carer and I walk up to my gate we have an interesting conversation on all sorts of topics - never about their other clients or the office staff. The standard of care and support I have is consistent with attention to detail. My daughter was wary at first of letting others care for her mother. Now she is confident Kemble carer's do.
Reply from Jason Walker, Head of Training & Development at Kemble at HomeDear Ann S, we are so pleased you are happy with the level of support we provide to you. I will share your feedback with the team.

We have been very happy with the service that Kemble have provided since my mother suffered a stroke at the end of March. They were very helpful and professional and quickly provided a Carer to look after her full time when she got home from hospital.
The relationship between my mother and her Carer
has been very positive and she has made a good recovery during that time. Having a Carer has been an uplifting experience for her - the companionship has been a real bonus and she has benefitted from being in her home surroundings but with all the pressure of running the home lifted from her. We are very pleased and grateful with the outcome.
Reply from Jason Walker, Registered Manager at Kemble at HomeDear Hilary, thank you so much for your review. We are very pleased that your mother has benefited from having a Live-In Carer and is now back to being independent again. Please do pass on our best wishes.

The carers who attend my husband for his personal care and general assistance are always cheerful, kind, polite, hard-working and willing to do anything I ask of them, from putting the washing machine on to vacuuming the kitchen. My husband enjoys their visits and company, as indeed do I. They take
a considerable burden off me, and consequently my physical and mental health is improved.

My brother has complex health and social care needs which demand the highest standards of care and in our experience, Kemble at Home does not fall short. The Care Manager for Kemble's West Herefordshire team works with us in an incredibly efficient and committed way to ensure that my brother has a small
team of carers with whom who he gets along and has trust in. The standard of care they provide is high, and we find the service is truly flexible to meet his needs for such things as Doctors appointments etc. Nothing is too much trouble whether it's a short notice change to the rota or a change to the usual activities the Care Manager always deals with such requests professionally and very quickly, we have never been let down. It's just good to know there is someone at the end of the phone who knows my brother very well and will always provide sensible advice and respond to any requests or observations. Very happy with Kemble at Home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.717)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.717) out of 10 for Kemble at Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.867 for Kemble at Home is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 90 Ratings = 4.867
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows: 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.5 Points for the second and third Positive Reviews, 0.25 Points for each of the next two Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3, 2nd = 0.5, 3rd = 0.5, 4th = 0.25, 5th = 0.25, 6th = 0.05, 7th = 0.05, 8th = 0.05, 9th = 0.05, 10th = 0.05, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025)

    The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Kemble at Home is based on 14 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4.85
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Martin

Martin Lewis

Job Title: Care Assistant Joined: 2011

Meet Martin, another one of our visiting carers - who celebrated his 10th anniversary with the company in August 2021 and joined us after initially retiring. Martin is one of those people who is really easy to talk to; he’s definitely a people person and he loves any opportunity to have a chinwag.

He was originally from Birmingham where he started off as an apprentice electrician. At the age of 21, he began his career with BT. He did a short stint of just some 37 years in total. It’s not very often these days you hear of someone staying in the same role for their entire working career. In 1990 he moved to the Madley BT station in Herefordshire as a sat comms power engineer.

In 2011 he was given the opportunity of taking voluntary retirement - who wouldn’t? Thinking at the age of 57 he would enjoy a relaxing retirement, “after 2 months I was bored, I needed something to get up for”. After speaking with his son, who at the time was working in social care (but now incidentally works for BT), he encouraged Martin to look into care work and recommended Kemble.
In August 2011 Martin joined the team at Kemble and in that time Martin has been both a carer and trainer, helping new employees at Kemble to find their feet. Some of the staff Martin has trained are still working for the company now.

How does he find being a carer? “You meet some really interesting people. I only go to gentlemen and they all have a life story to tell. We often compare notes as we are similar in age! I just enjoy meeting people and having a good chinwag”. Martin talks fondly about some of the clients he used to support and particularly enjoyed working alongside colleagues supporting clients.
When asked what would he say to someone in his shoes, looking for something to do part-time in retirement or semi-retirement he said “just give it a try, everyone is different with what they are happy doing. You are well supported at Kemble, the hours are good and I can fit my working hours around my home life and family”. The managers definitely know not to ask Martin for work on a Wednesday evening as Wednesdays are his wife’s night out for a meal!

Outside of work, Martin enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He’s heavily involved in the Hereford Rugby Club. He helped out in the juniors when his son was younger, he then became the 2nd Team Manager before becoming Fixture Secretary for a number of years. He now meets and greets opposition committee members on the 1st team match days both home and away.
