I have no complaints about the competence of the carers. However the rota is non-functioning. I chose Lotus on the basis that the carers calls would be 9am and 7pm, with occasional adjustments for appointments. Despite numerous phone calls the preparation of the rota has not met the times as agreed.
For example the rota has deviated from the agreed times by up to 3 hours regularly. Also adjustments requested by myself have not been initiated.
Reply from gerry petts, Customer Experience Quality Officer at Lotus Home Care Barnsley

Thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased to hear that you're happy with the carers' professionalism, but I'm very sorry that the rota has not reflected the agreed call times. We understand how important consistency is, and it's concerning that the visits have been up to three hours off schedule and that your requested adjustments haven't been actioned. I'll escalate this to our scheduling team immediately so we can review what's gone wrong and put a reliable rota in place. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

The service provided by the carers is excellent, they are kind, friendly and very professional. During the extremely cold weather early in the year, one lady walked more than a mile to reach me when her car was stuck in snow. However the management of their time is less satisfactory with the times they
are allocated to arrive varying by as much as 90 minutes from the arranged time, particularly in the evening visit. The carers themselves are brilliant.
Reply from gerry petts, Customer Experience Quality Officer at Lotus Home Care Barnsley

Thank you so much for your kind words about our carer's. We're delighted to hear that you find them kind, friendly, and professional , and we're especially proud of the dedication shown during the severe weather earlier this year. Your feedback about the timing of visits is equally important to us. We understand how frustrating it can be when visits don't happen at the expected time, and we're working on improving our scheduling to make things more consistent, particularly for evening calls. We truly appreciate your recognition of our carers and your constructive comments to help us improve.

My mum is very happy with the support she gets she likes all her carers.
The only thing she has a problem with is receiving personal care from men. If this happens she would decline help. All other times, other than personal care, a male carer is fine.
I have phoned about this but it is still happening.
Reply from gerry petts, Customer Experience Quality Officer at Lotus Home Care Barnsley

Thank you for your message. I'm really glad to hear that your mum is happy with the support she receives and that she gets on well with her carers - that's very important to us.I'm sorry to hear, however, that despite your previous call, male carers are still being assigned for personal care. We completely understand and respect your mum's preferences, and this should have been noted and followed accordingly. We will review her care notes and ensure that only female carers are assigned for any personal care tasks moving forward.Thank you for bringing this to our attention again, and please don't hesitate to reach out if there are any further concerns.

The delivery of my care is very professional and helpful. The only downside is that I sometimes feel that I am not listened to, for example I can take paracetamol that is not prescribed for me, some carers will leave it for me to take when needed others put it out of my reach. If the next carers are
late I can be sat in a lot of pain waiting for someone to come.
Reply from gerry petts, Customer Experience Quality Officer at Lotus Home Care Barnsley

Thank you for your feedback , we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We're pleased to hear that you find the delivery of your care professional and helpful. We're sorry to hear that you sometimes feel unheard, particularly around your access to paracetamol. We understand how important it is to manage pain effectively and consistently. We'll look into this and speak with the care team to ensure there's a clear, consistent approach that supports your needs while keeping you safe.Your comfort and well being are very important to us, and we'll do our best to improve this part of your care. Thank you again for bringing it to our attention.

The carers that come are lovely and friendly. However my wife is left in bed for 12 hrs some days due to calls being late and it's simply not fair and inhumane as she is incontinent and laid there for hours. Sometimes the cares don't even change the bed when it's wet and smelly from her, they have to
be told too. We used to get a call if the carers were late and this helped but that stopped. I have debated other companies, but I like this company but things need to be better. Also my wife isn't always dried after a shower properly and this results in sores.
Reply from Gerry Petts, Customer Experience Quality Officer at Lotus Home Care Barnsley

Firstly, we're truly sorry to hear about the distressing issues you and your wife have been facing. While we're glad to hear you find our carers friendly and caring, We take this very seriously. We completely agree that timely visits, proper hygiene care, and clear communication are essential for your wife's comfort and well being. We will urgently look into why calls are running late and why you are no longer receiving updates when there are delays. We will also remind all carers of the importance of changing bedding when needed and ensuring your wife is thoroughly dried to prevent any discomfort or sores. Your trust in us means a lot, and we want to make sure your wife gets the dignified and compassionate care she deserves.Thank you again for bringing this to our attention - we truly appreciate your honesty and patience.

Sometimes we have had to cancel a session with our carers because I've had a hospital appointment, every time we have rung the office to give them plenty of notice however mostly they have it passed the information to the carer who has come to help me unknowingly also we have had to sit waiting for
carers to come because they can be over an hour late, when I'm still waiting to get in the shower at 11 o'clock in the morning. It's rather annoying.
Reply from gerry petts, Customer Experience Quality Officer at Lotus Home Care Barnsley

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience you've experienced with communication and delays. This is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide. We appreciate you giving us notice when cancelling sessions, and it's clear we need to improve how this information is passed on to our carers. We also understand how frustrating it is to be left waiting, especially for essential care like your morning shower. Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously and will review our processes to ensure better communication and punctuality in the future.

I have used Lotus Homecare since March this year. Like most service providers it has it's good and bad points. I request that I prefer lady carers to gentlemen although I do understand it's inevitable at times. To be quite honest I have considered finding another service provider but can't be bothered
with the hassle of explaining my life and conditions again to complete strangers.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.449)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.449) out of 10 for Lotus Home Care Barnsley is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.949 for Lotus Home Care Barnsley is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 39 Ratings = 3.949
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

    The 5 points available are broken down as follows: 3 points for the first Positive Review, 2 points in total for each of the next 9 Positive Reviews (1st = 3, 2nd = 0.5, 3rd = 0.5, 4th = 0.25, 5th = 0.25, 6th = 0.1, 7th = 0.1, 8th = 0.1, 9th = 0.1, 10th = 0.1)

The 5 points relating to the number of Positive Reviews for Lotus Home Care Barnsley is based on 5 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows: 3 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4.5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in care for over 10 years, I started working with children and then moved into adult social care.

I started as a care co-ordinator and worked my way up to Registered Manager within a short space of time, this was down to my regional manager at the time who put a lot of faith in me and encouraged me to be the best version of myself. I love to see people happy and thriving at home and I am a strong believer that home is where the heart is. My main job role is maintaining a safe and compliant service and aiming to exceed expectations. There is no better feeling than seeing not only a service user smile but also seeing family happy with the care we are providing.
