Care for my Mum only started recently but I was impressed by how quickly 1st Focus Homecare managed to organise and put care in place. Mum is happy to have assistance when showering and the carer is happy to help out with things Mum needs help with.
Provide companionship support for my mother which consists of regular and frequent wheelchair outings. Care provider staff are extremely attentive and are caring and try to vary the places she goes to e.g. river walk, park, coffee shops etc. It is very important for Mother to get out and about as much as possible - whatever the weather!
We have been extremely pleased with the service provided by 1st Focus Homecare who have been providing care visits for Mum. Carers visit first thing in the morning and in the late afternoon and the visits have been instrumental in helping Mum regain her confidence after a series of falls. The carers make meals and do odd jobs around the house but also provide companionship and peace of mind for the family. We would highly recommend 1st Focus.
The company has made life easier for me, since I really needed some time to myself and that has kept me sane. I am thankful I found them.
I am delighted with the service that 1st Focus Homecare are providing for my parents. Their proactive, friendly carers have quickly established a good relationship with my mum and dad. As an organisation, 1st Focus are professional and helpful. Their communication has been excellent and they have responded promptly when I have needed to get in touch with them. Receiving support from such a caring and reliable organisation has vastly improved my mum and dad's quality of life, making a difference for the whole family.
We are absolutely delighted with our carer - who is so kind and caring. She comes from the same part of the world as my husband so they always have something to talk about. I am also pleased with the response time to admin-related emails. We had intended to have 2 carers and she was also splendid. Having a carer once a week allows me to visit my mother in a care home without being concerned about leaving my husband for any amount of time - this is when he becomes uneasy and starts to wander off.
The carers make her feel at ease and take time to chat with her which is important at her age.
Overall very happy and would recommend the team to others who are looking for home care.
My role, as power of attorney for one of my friends, has led me to seek out additional home care for her. Both she and I have been delighted with the service provided by 1st Focus Homecare. As an organisation, they have been very flexible, helpful and responsive to my friend's changing needs. The 1st Focus carers have been able to build up good relationships with my friend and have provided tremendous support over the last few months, which has made a very positive difference to my friend's quality of life.
Very happy with the service provided. Professional and reliable. My mum enjoys her weekly visits and it’s a relief for the family to know that someone is going in to see her. She likes to have a cup of tea and a chat with the carer. She also needs help with housework, shopping etc. which she gets.
We needed some care and companionship for my wife after a long spell in hospital. 1st Focus Homecare was very responsive and quickly came up with the needed support at very short notice. The two members of staff quickly built a good relationship with my wife and they couldn't have been more helpful or flexible in their approach.
10/10.
We needed some companionship for our mother twice a week and this was organised quickly for us. The two members of staff have developed a very good rapport with her in a short period of time. Our father is currently having some mobility issues and so we have increased our care. Again, this has been dealt with very efficiently to meet our needs. We have been very happy with the level of care and service.
1st Focus Homecare has been providing care for my mum since mid-2022. A home visit was conducted to meet my mother and I, helping to establish an appropriate care package. My mother was listened to and her needs and wishes were taken fully on board. My mum had a desire for fixed carers and this has been catered to. One or two minor teething problems, as is to be expected in any new relationship as an understanding develops. Importantly where issues arose, 1st Focus were easily contactable and resolved any issues as soon as possible. 1st Focus carers have developed a great relationship with my mother and she is always delighted to see them. Care notes are always input, giving an additional level of reassurance.
Overall care of my mother is excellent. Staff are courteous, friendly and go over and about their duty. Mum is really grateful for their hard work and social skills they have, it makes her day to see them as they come through the door. Mum loves to see familiar faces and has struck up friendships with those who see her often.
Professional carers, carry out their duties with dignity and kindness. Punctual with all visits and will discuss any concerns relating to care immediately. High standard and person-centred approach in care. Strong managerial support and transparency. Always happy to discuss any aspects of care with an understanding of both the needs of the client and relatives.
1st Focus Homecare have cared for my mum for the past five years and I can honestly say they are excellent! They are very flexible and will respond very quickly to any concerns/issues, of which I have to say are minimal! Compared to other companies I have heard about from colleagues, there is little comparison. Always arrive on time, at the specified time and as far as possible with the same two carers alternating, providing consistency not only for Mum but me too! If this is not possible, the company will always try to send out cover staff who know Mum, again, providing her with the reassurance she needs. Good care notes provide me with an update on returning home from work. It is very reassuring that I can rely on the fact that there is someone who is checking she is safe and well cared for during the day, as I work full time.
At the moment we are very satisfied with the care that my sister receives from 1st Focus, especially from management when we have had occasion to contact them. Although there appears to have been high turnover of staff, it seems to have been effectively managed, which must be hard for those in charge.
1st Focus Homecare has recently taken over the care of my mum. The family are very pleased with all aspects of the care provided. The carers arrive on time and are all very friendly and attentive, and my mum is very happy with each and every one of them.
1st Focus are an excellent service. The carers have been superb with my mum, who has Alzheimer's. There are too many examples of the ways in which they have helped her and us as a family to list here, but we are all very grateful indeed and could not cope without them, as I do not live nearby my mum. The care notes, regular updates and messages all keep us informed on how we can work together to provide care for my mum.
I am very pleased with the service that I have received from 1st Focus Homecare. From the carers through to management, who also support me at home. Basically, I am in bed most of the time. I have Secondary Progressive (MS) Multiple-Sclerosis and Breast Cancer. In these uncertain times, I feel very vulnerable with this virus about; as I'm very vulnerable. However, I believe that there may be a number of visiting carers working for this company who are not vaccinated and have no intention of getting vaccinated. Could you please ask why the company wasn't putting pressure on these staff? As it's selfish; not just their decision but the poor vulnerable service users they visit. In England, it's the law!
Hi. Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to review 1st Focus Homecare. In relation to staff vaccinations, this is a conversation that we have already had and unfortunately, our position hasn't changed. We have and continue to ask staff on a regular basis to have their vaccinations,...

Meet the Team (6)
I moved to Edinburgh from Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 2017 and began working with 1st Focus Homecare in 2019. I started as a Care Assistant and, over time, progressed to Care Supervisor before stepping into my current role as Care Coordinator.
While working with 1st Focus, I successfully completed both SVQ 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care, as well as a Professional Development Award (PDA) in Health and Social Care Supervision. These qualifications have helped me strengthen my skills in supporting both clients and colleagues to ensure the highest standard of care.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing the guitar and singing — two of my favourite hobbies. I also love animals and cooking, especially when I can share meals with family and friends.
I am the Business Development Manager and have worked for 1st Focus Homecare since 2017. I was previously the HR Coordinator and hold a CIPD qualification in this field. I greatly enjoy my current role as I get to meet and engage with people who are looking to arrange one of our packages of care. Being able to create a package of care that works for a service user and the people in their lives is highly rewarding.
I previously worked hands-on as a carer, and the experience I gained in those roles helped me to understand what is truly important to the people who use our services and their families. Before joining 1st Focus Homecare, I worked for a couple of homecare providers in Edinburgh, gaining experience in all aspects of care and seeing firsthand the impact that having the right support can have on everyone involved.
Having had a grandparent who suffered from Alzheimer’s, I understand the emotional and physical strain that such a diagnosis places on families. This experience gave me a greater appreciation of the kind of support we all need when we find ourselves in these situations. Knowing that there are compassionate professionals available to support your loved ones — and to help you spend quality time with them — is truly invaluable.
I am from Edinburgh and grew up in the Blackford area. I have a son, a daughter, and three cats. I have a great love of the theatre, reading (especially Georgette Heyer novels), art, birdwatching, and playing badminton.
I am one of the Care Supervisors, and I have worked for 1st Focus Homecare since 2019. Before joining the office team, I supported council visits and, more recently, private companionship care visits. I really enjoy getting to know service users and their families to ensure they receive the best care possible.
I studied and earned my BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. As part of my studies, I completed four placements across different sectors and services. I have always been interested in looking after others and working with them in a person-centred way, and I have also worked in two different care homes.
I have lived in and around Edinburgh all my life. I have a passion for craft activities, music, and musical theatre. I attend the theatre regularly, supporting both professional and amateur dramatic productions. I also volunteer for Girlguiding Scotland as a Leader in Training for a Rainbows unit in Musselburgh.
I was a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCOS) and have toured with the choir across the country and in Europe, including a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York. I am also a member of an Edinburgh-based choir, Cadenza, performing regularly at the Fringe Festival and throughout the year.
Purity is a compassionate and dedicated care professional with a strong background in counselling, mental health, and community development. Originally from Zimbabwe, she holds a BA in Counselling Psychology as well as a Bible School diploma and has completed both basic and advanced counselling training.
Her career has taken her across Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, and now Scotland, giving her a rich cross-cultural perspective on care and support. In Zimbabwe, Purity founded a non-profit organisation that partnered with schools, clinics, communities, and churches to provide psychosocial support and carry out charitable initiatives. She also partnered with churches in Mozambique and South Africa to deliver community-focused charity work, extending care and hope to those in need. During her time in South Africa, she also served as a Crisis Counsellor for a national helpline, playing a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alongside her practical work, Purity is an accomplished author of three books, including a recent mental health self-help guide. Her writing reflects her passion for empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being.
Since relocating to Edinburgh, Purity has continued to grow in her career — supporting adults with learning disabilities as a Support Worker, Acting Senior, and then Senior within her first year. In April 2025, she joined 1st Focus Homecare as a Care Supervisor, where she leads with empathy and works to create environments where people feel valued, supported, and empowered in their daily lives.
Outside of work, Purity has been married for 25 years and is a proud mother of two adult children, whom she home-educated. The fourth of seven siblings, she values strong family connections and community. She enjoys gardening, DIY projects, and finding creative ways to make spaces feel welcoming.
I joined 1st Focus in 2022 as a Care Assistant, where I quickly developed a strong passion for person-centred care and supporting individuals to live independently in their own homes. Providing compassionate, high-quality care has always been important to me, and I was delighted to recently step into the role of Care Supervisor. I now oversee care delivery, support and mentor our team, and help ensure we continue to maintain the highest standards in everything we do.
Before moving into the care sector, I worked as a secondary school teacher in India. Teaching helped me build strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills, which I now use every day to guide and support colleagues in a positive and structured way.
During my university years, I volunteered as a leader with the National Service Scheme (NSS), taking part in community development and outreach initiatives. I also hold a Master’s degree in Physics, which reflects my dedication to learning and personal growth.
Outside of work, I love travelling and exploring new countries with my husband. I am trained in Indian classical dance and enjoy performing Bharathanatyam on various stages. I am also a member of The Ghungroo Revolution, a Glasgow-based dance group.
I truly believe that working alongside a dedicated and supportive care team gives me the confidence and motivation to keep growing, improving, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people.
I moved to Fort William from Poland in 2010. I found a job in a Care Home and thought I would give it a go. This job was meant to last a few months until I found something else. But I enjoyed helping and working with people, so I stayed working there and learning new things. Six years later, with lots of new skills, experience and SVQ2 certificate, I moved to Edinburgh. I worked in another Care Home for seven years before joining 1st Focus in 2024. I started as a support worker and progressed to become a supervisor. My over 14 years of experience working with the elderly helps me in my new role to understand clients' needs and help them the best I can.
Outside work, I love reading books, walking, playing badminton and cycling. I enjoy jigsaw, cinema and like socialising.
