Super care provided for my mother who suffers from Alzheimer's related dementia and has been living at home with 24-hour care. This care has suited her particularly well as her dementia has progressed. The carers have been proactive, communicated well via Whatsapp and enabled my mother to have structure and stability, particularly as she has been facing the upheaval of moving to residential care near me in Sheffield a long way from home.

Thank you for your kind words and very glad to have been able to support both your father and mother to stay safely at home. I very much hope that your mother is now settling in well in her new setting.

My Grandmother has been receiving care and companionship from the team here for a few months now. Everyone is so friendly and the ladies that care for her are more like friends. I can honestly say, having experienced other care providers in the area, that the service offered by Right at Home is amazing and has really had a positive impact on my Grandmothers overall well being.

Samantha, thank you very much for your fantastic review. I am so lucky to have such a fantastic team of people in the business, both in the office and the care team. I am delighted that we have been able to improve the well being of your Grandmother and give you peace of mind.

I have no hesitation in recommending Right at Home GF - the care provided has exceeded expectations. Mum has daily care visits and is also accompanied to medical appointments; on occasion, additional visits or outings have been accommodated, often at short notice as a result of unexpected circumstances. I live at a distance from Mum and we have come to depend on the reliable and friendly efficiency of the CareGivers. I sense that the team know Mum as an individual. She is treated with kindness and warmth and feels comfortable with the CareGivers, even at medical appointments. The communication between team members, and with me, is excellent. I am kept well-informed about any issues Mum might be facing and that enables me to better support her. I am confident that Mum’s well-being is the CareGivers’ priority.

Dear Alison, thank you for such a heartfelt review. It is great to know that we are making such a difference not just to your Mum but you as well. We do think of each of our clients as an individual so I am very glad to hear what you say. Thanks again!

Cannot recommend Right at Home highly enough. Always provided excellent support at my grandmother's home where she is always treated very well and with dignity. But when she was taken into hospital recently Right at Home were unbelievably flexible in accommodating my grandmother's increased care needs. Just the sort of people you need at this time when you have a vulnerable person being discharged home. Brilliant!

Mum is always kindly spoken to and treated with courtesy.
They are outstanding at treating mum with dignity and respect, always giving her choices and allowing a 'NO' response. She always looks cared for whenever I drop by.
In times of snow or sickness, they work together to make sure Mum is safe and has her visits as scheduled.
The team are very knowledgable and quick to pick up a change in behaviour whether through infection, etc.
I feel Mum is cared for as if she was any of the teams own mum.
Mum is not always compliant but the team are incredibly skilled at engaging with her and gaining her cooperation.
I am kept informed regularly and together we are making a real difference to Mum's quality of life and daily living.
Care in the home is expensive but it is the quality and independence that it gives Mum and the satisfaction it gives me knowing my much loved mum is so well cared for is worth every penny.

Thank you ALL at RAH.

I have been overwhelmed by a very kind member of staff who gave up two days of her holiday to take me into hospital, bring me home again, stay the night to do the dressing, cook breakfast then go home to her family. What a wonderful thing to do and what a wonderful team of staff. Then on Wednesday 19th December 2018 the owner of the agency, dressed up as Santa and brought a gift with him. They deserve an award for their kindness and time. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.

We have been using Right at Home for both my wife's personal care and companionship so that I am able to continue with my own interests. We have been with the company for just over two years and all the front line carers we have had for my wife have been excellent with their support, care and encouragement for her. The minimum one hour visit makes all the difference as it enables carers to pay attention to detail and fulfil their personal care tasks.

The backup management and office staff have always been only to happy to help with our requests and needs.

The care is excellent with Right at Home GF.

Following the 'mixed' experiences of a former care provider for my father, I have been delighted with Right at Home's services since they commenced Dad's care in November 2017. In a sometimes challenging environment, they are very approachable and have been particularly flexible with Dad's scheduling over the last 12 months. My mother is 91 years young and wants to stay in the house she's lived in since 1969.

I live 3 hours drive away so it is fantastic to have a service from Right At Home that I can rely on 100% to provide sensitive and caring support for my mother, completely reliable and trustworthy. The training and review system is also good. I like the philosophy - promote independence at home.

Reply from Alastair Shanks, at Right at Home Guildford & Farnham

Dear Alice, thank you very much for your kind review. Independence is something very close to our hearts; many people think that care means the end of independence but in reality it often gives people much greater independence and improves quality of life. Thanks again!

Right at Home have been supporting my mother with visits two and latterly three times a day for the last four years. The team of carers, as well as the management team, have been exemplary during the whole period. Descriptions that come to mind are kind, willing, lively, flexible, professional, supportive, encouraging and "going the extra mile". My mother passed away over Easter and the carers were with her all the way. I am most grateful for all the help received for my mother and for myself.

So pleased that both my parents received such wonderful personal care from the team in Farnham - the staff were all so lovely and patient and nothing was too much trouble. It give me peace of mind to know that they were visiting as I live over an hour away and could only visit once or twice a week - they did everything I would have done and always with a smile. If they was anything they were unsure about then they would contact me straight away.

Sadly my dad died recently and my mum later had to go into a care home as her physical needs and dementia became too severe to be managed at home. Really glad I found them and I would definitely recommend them.

The carer that visited mum every week gave her so much happiness and friendship and mum developed a very close bond with her. Meet the Team (17)

Alastair Shanks Job Title: Managing Director & Business Owner Joined: 2012
Alastair Shanks

Alastair realised back in 2012 that homecare was a very rewarding way to work within his local community and was successful in joining the growing team of Right at Home local owners/operators.

"My role has changed significantly since I started the business in 2012, Alastair explains. "From being involved in every activity of the business to now having an amazing team that does all the hard work. I am still involved in defining our strategic plans, overseeing the values and culture of our business and leading the senior team."

"Although it is great to receive amazing feedback from our clients, I think the most rewarding part of my job is to support team members to fulfil their potential and grow their careers at Right at Home."

Alastair described working at Right at Home as rewarding, varied, and safe.

Rhys Bailey Job Title: Deputy Managing Director Joined: 2021
Rhys Bailey

Rhys joined the Right at Home team in 2021 as Head of Finance & Business Development, after realising the difference Homecare can make to individuals. Rhys' job allows him to "oversee all finance-related activities and ensure the business is building partnerships with local authorities, communities and businesses in the local area." Since then, in the summer of 2025, Rhys got a promotion to Deputy Manager Director!

"Completing business-wide financial processes from KPIs to payroll to management accounts. There is nothing more satisfying than implementing a new process and seeing how that affects business performance. "

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did prior to joining Right at Home?

Before joining Right at Home I worked in the promotional merchandise industry. Anything you could brand, we would print. We operated as a global solution meaning I had the pleasure of working on US, Europe and Asia timezones. I've always worked in finance ever since leaving sixth form and have a real passion for understanding how everything works from the economy to budgeting.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

Knowing what this industry gives back was key to my decision. Having close relatives worked in this sector I knew exactly what feeling you get when leaving and going home. That feeling of a job well done. Of really making a difference to someone. I say it to everyone I come across, certainly ex-employees from my time in the City. This role is incredibly rewarding, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I'm always looking ahead. Strategically thinking about ways to grow the organisation and improve processes to increase efficiency. I spend time catching up with the CareGivers to discuss pensions, holiday pots or budgeting. From a client's perspective, I make sure that they continue having the best quality homecare that puts our name on the map.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?

I assisted a client with an old printer they had. When I say old, I mean 22+ years old. Not the kind of printer you can pick up from your local Currys or Argos. Both myself and the branch in question made it our mission to get this individual printing again (as they make the most wonderful cards that EVERYONE enjoys). We sourced the printer on eBay. Negotiated a price. Received the item and made sure this was all setup for them to start using straight away. Its still going to this day! The way I can tell is because everyone in the office has received a Christmas card!

What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?

I can speak Spanish. I used to be fluent after spending 5 years of my childhood living in Tenerife.

What’s your favourite thing about working with your colleagues?

We are all just so, so different. In my previous role, it was very sales-driven and sales-based, meaning we had one mould of person. Here it is completely different. I think everyone here has done care in the past, and I love just how enthusiastically they speak about the sector. It's infectious!

Claire Skilton Job Title: Head of Compliance Joined: 2017
Claire Skilton

Claire’s return to college and her desire to ‘give something back’ were the key motivations that kick-started her career in care. Today, Claire oversees the compliance across all four of our territories. Claire’s role is vital in ensuring that Right at Home delivers the highest standards for everyone involved - our clients, caregivers, and employees. Her dedication to this is truly inspiring.

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did before joining Right at Home?

I am a proud mother of four and someone who values lifelong learning. After taking time to focus on my family, I returned to my studies as a mature student, which led to my degree in social work. Following that, I worked for a charity for several years, where I was able to make a meaningful impact by supporting unpaid carers and families.

What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?

My caregiving journey has been shaped by a lot of personal experiences and life events. Supporting my elderly grandmother as she aged was a big part of it - it showed me how much of a difference a little care and compassion can make. As a mother of four, I’ve always been in the role of looking after others, and when I went back to school to study social work, it gave me a deeper understanding of how to support people in meaningful ways.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

Their commitment to providing truly person-centred care. Right at Home focuses on quality care by offering hourly visits. This means we have the time to build real connections and provide the support people need without feeling rushed.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me starts with checking my emails and completing any necessary admin tasks. I often visit other offices to make sure everything is on track and offer support as needed. No two days are exactly the same, but that’s part of what makes it so rewarding.

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

What I enjoy most about my role is visiting the clients and seeing firsthand the difference our carers make in their lives and the impact they have on their well-being. I love listening to the carers and hearing their stories about going the extra mile, it’s a privilege to be part of a team that genuinely cares about making a difference.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?

Crocheting

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Treat people how you’d want your loved ones to be treated.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learnt in the past month?

Your brain isn't fully formed until age 25!

Liz is actively involved in the community, whether at recruitment fairs, organising events at HQ, or participating in local community gatherings to promote Right at Home and represent the company with a friendly face. Her dedication never goes unnoticed, and she is truly the glue that holds her team together.

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did before joining Right at Home?

I have worked in a marketing role for 20 years, the majority of which was in the promotional merchandise industry. Before this, I was at university studying Art History!

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

I loved the Right at Home company values, which are strongly aligned with my own and that it is a growing company which genuinely wants to do good things for people, whether it is the clients, their families or the carers!

What does a typical day look like for you?

I feel like there is no typical day for me! My role is so varied, which I love!! I can be doing anything from working with my team on recruitment or marketing strategies to making calls to carers to check in on their well-being. I work a lot on our internal and external communications and generally aim to make Right at Home the best place to work for everyone!

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

All of it. I love my team, and I love seeing carers and clients, and when they are happy, I am happy.

We're thrilled to welcome Tiffany to the office support team! She joined us in the autumn of 2025, bringing a fantastic 16 years of experience in the care field. She's worked in everything from domiciliary and clinical care to mental health, learning disabilities, and dementia care.

You might be surprised to learn that Tiffany's career in care started completely by accident. She took a cleaning job, but found herself naturally gravitating toward caring for the residents. That's when she discovered her passion, and now she can't imagine doing anything else.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

'I originally wanted to join the right at home Mid Cheshire branch before joining the race team, but due to moving, I did not continue with the application. I was thrilled to apply for the role at Farnham.'

What does a typical day look like for you?

'Monday to Friday 9 - 5 with my amazing team.'

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

'Being able to fine-tune the little details that can make someone's day.'

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?

'I was sent to a ward to assist with a one-on-one dementia patient, who was disoriented and wasn't aware of where she was or who any of the staff were. When she saw me, she thought I was someone she remembered from her past memories, and I was able to settle her to the point she fell asleep holding my hand for over 4 hours. I did not leave until the end of my shift, and luckily, the family had arrived whom she remembered. It was a small achievement, but one that has never left me. That little bit of compassion went a long way for her.'

What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?

'Home life - weekends consist of walking, gardening, and anything motorbikes.'

Do you have any pets? If so, what?

'None at the moment, but looking at possibly a King Charles Cavalier.'

Anya Day Job Title: Coordinator for Team Guildford Joined: 2025
Anya Day

Anya first joined the Right at Home family in Autumn 2023, taking on her very first role as a Carer at just 18 years old. For about a year, she made a difference every day, providing person-centred care to her clients.

Anya briefly explored a different career path as an Activities Coordinator, but she soon realised she missed the fulfilment of being a Carer and the Right at Home team. Luckily for us, she rejoined Right at Home, excited to reconnect with her wonderful clients. Less than two months after her return, the perfect opportunity arose! Anya was promoted to Care Coordinator for the Guildford team; with her firsthand experience as a Carer, who better for the role!

What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?

"I’ve always had a natural instinct to help others, and I’m definitely drawn to roles where I can genuinely make a difference in someone’s daily life. My family always encouraged me to try a career in care. Caregiving allows me to build meaningful connections, offer companionship and provide support to people when they need it most. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that even the small things I do can have a big impact on someone’s well-being and quality of life!"

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

"What drew me to Right at Home initially definitely and what brought me back is the company’s commitment to promoting independence for clients and their values. From day one, I have felt valued and supported as a team member and this allows me to do my job confidently and gives me so much motivation to push and be the best I can possibly be. The high standards we have as a company and genuine care for both clients and carers really stood out to me, and I knew it was a place where I could grow and thrive in my career."

What does a typical day look like for you?

"A typical day for me starts with checking my rota and preparing for my visits. Each visit is unique, and every one needs something different, but I often support clients with personal care, medication and mobility. However, my most important thing is companionship. I will always make time to chat and emotionally connect with clients and their families, which is just as important as the practical side. I keep notes updated, communicate with the office if needed and always aim to leave each visit knowing the client feels cared for and respected. If I can make them smile even once, I will leave feeling good. I am still new to my role as a coordinator, but solving problems and offering support and communication with our amazing team and clients is something I am familiar with and excited to continue doing."

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement?

"One memorable moment was supporting a client with dementia who rarely engaged with anyone. Over time, I built a strong connection with her, and one day she surprised everyone by recognising me and giving me a hug when I arrived. It was such a small moment, but for me it meant the world and reminded me how powerful consistent compassionate care can be. We enjoy every visit together now, and it makes me so proud that we were able to break through that barrier and have her feel comfortable and safe. The difference in her has been amazing to watch."

What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?

"Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my family and my lovely boyfriend. We enjoy going for walks and exploring new places together. Living in the countryside means we get to unwind in the garden or relax in the hot tub, it’s the perfect way to switch off. One of my favourite ways to relax is curling up on the sofa with my dogs, watching a good TV show, and enjoying the little moments with the people I care about most. I truly believe it’s the small things in life that make a big difference. Having these hobbies helps me stay balanced and brings even more positive energy into my work."

Do you have any pets? If so, what?

"I have 2 miniature dachshunds, they are my world. We also have 2 rescue dogs, one of which has 3 legs! And we have a beautiful horse."

What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?

"I'd say my hidden talent is remembering the tiniest details. whether it’s how you like your biscuits arranged or your favourite radio station, I love making people feel seen and remembered."

If you were stranded on a desert island, which three items would you want to have with you and why?

1. My dog Winnie. because who wouldn’t want their best little friend for company and cuddles?
2. A Kindle loaded with books, so I’d never get bored (I am hopeless at telling people I’m going to start reading more and never doing it!).

3. A never-ending snack stash. This may not be realistic, but being stranded sounds stressful, and snacks make everything better.
