We had to find in-home care at short notice for our 98 year old Mum after a spell in hospital. Home Instead were able to provide what we wanted straight away and as a family we are very pleased with the level of care provided. Nothing is too much trouble and all the carers and office staff go above and beyond to ensure Mum receives the best possible support to enable her to stay in her own home which is very important to her. When situations occur that means Mum needs different levels of support, Home Instead are very efficient and quick to put in the additional help. All the carers who visit Mum are lovely and nothing is too much trouble which is great because she can be quite demanding at times! It has given our family great comfort and peace of mind to know Mum is being well cared for especially as we do not live close by. We would have no hesitation in recommending Hone Instead as a care provider.

Although I've selected April 2026 my experience with Home Instead stretches back to late 2024. My review covers all this time. My Mother suddenly found the need to be supported in her home due to mobility and pain issues.
A care package was put in place that has had to be amended as my Mother's physical health deteriorated. During this whole period the staff, especially the Manager have gone that extra mile. Sometimes undertaking tasks that I would otherwise do if I lived nearer. H.I have demonstrated a great deal of flexibility in accommodating some of Mother's health 'emergencies'. Often at very short notice. They have also tried to maintain carer continuity which has been a comfort to my Mother.

Living, as I do, over 50 miles away I can check the carer's notes written after each visit for peace of mind. Communication is very good, appraising me of any changes. Also carer's will take Mother to appointments and have even visited Mother in hospital so she sees a friendly face.

HI has provided excellent care for my very elderly mother for over a year now. Initially this was 1 daily personal care visit to her in her own home, increasing to 4 daily visits. All HI carers were/are excellent, kind, efficient and very reliable (only a very few visits started later than planned, due to unforeseen problems such as road closures, and then the maximum delay was 15 mins). The organisation has been great too, reacting quickly to increase visits as needed. It helped my mother that there was continuity with personnel - while there were c20 carers involved overall, many visited long term and frequently. After over a year of my mother having care in her home, she moved into residential care by choice, where facilities and infrastructure (including an en suite wet room) were better suited to her needs than could be provided in her home. HI was very helpful in the transition and continues to provide valued care via a weekly companionship visit to my mother in her care home.

It is a sad moment as life gets more difficult, and care needs increase, but the most important thing as a care company is to stay one step ahead of any decline to ensure your 'loved one' is safe. We always say that we 'try to know', before the client themselves know that they need more care, and...

What an excellent organisation, we're so glad we found Home Instead at Taunton to look after our Aunty so that she could live in her own home. She enjoyed extraordinary care and attention from wonderful staff who really went the extra mile - my Aunty looked forward to each visit. Thank you Home Instead for joining everything up so wonderfully as we live miles away. We really appreciated your help and support.

Thank you for such an amazing review. The team will be delighted to hear how you and your aunt felt. It is reducing what you said, but as a service we always need to fit in with the lives of all involved to make sure the care is individualised, and received in the way that will make the most...

The Team at Home Instead have been a very positive addition to my cousin's life, allowing her to feel safe within her own home. Her carers arrive on time, at a regular time each day. The small team of those who visit her have taken her out into the fresh air, for a short walk or just to the coffee shop. This is such a boost to her life. Recently we have added a monthly visit to a local craft workshop in the local communtiy hall which she has very much enjoyed but would be unable to get there alone.
The app updates me after every visit so that I can be assured that all is well.

Would recommend to those who have loved ones that need care but live far away.

Thank you for your lovely review. Care has a mixed reputation but when done well can make a huge difference to people's lives through small changes that mean a lot. It is lovely to hear that the short walk and visits to the coffee shop are making such a difference. Thank you for letting us know and I will feedback your appreciation to her team.

Was having problems with my mobility and difficulty getting a doctor's appointment at the nearby surgery.
HomeInstead helped to arrange this, which resulted in visits from an occupational therapist and help with exercises. A member of HomeInstead also drove me to the surgery and helped me inside as access is not easy for me. They have also continued to help as I try out various mobility aids.

My family do not live in the area so none of this would be possible without their help.

Thank you so much for great feedback. I contacted Home Instead on behalf of our friend who has dementia and relied on her friends for support but we felt she needed more. The staff at the office were very helpful when we first contacted them and a plan was soon put in place. There are now three visits a week and although she still says she does not need help, she is very welcoming and appreciates their care and attention. We her friends are very grateful for this.

We're extremely happy with the care Mum received over the past 7 months. Engaging Home Instead to look after her was the best thing we could have done and meant she could live as normal and comfortable a life as possible at home whilst navigating serious illness. As her health declined, that need increased from companionship to daily help around the house, and eventually to continuous end-of-life care. The team and office staff were professional, experienced and compassionate, and genuinely lovely people who responded promptly to the changing circumstances. With family members living far away, knowing that Mum had such wonderful people looking after her gave us peace of mind. The app was a very useful tool to keep us informed of her well-being and health from updates posted at the end of every shift. I have already recommended Home Instead to friends in the Taunton area who are looking for in-home care at any level for their loved ones and will continue to do so.

It has been our privelige to support your mum, and to be able, as her needs increased to continue to support her to the end with the same team that were around her since we started care. Absolutely first class care provided to Mum as her health declined over 7 months. The level of care required for Mum increased in several significant steps over time and each step was responded to immediately by Mum's care team. With all family living far away, the care provided gave us peace of mind between our visits. All the care staff were professional, knowledgable and lovely people. I can highly recommend Home Instead Taunton, Mum received the best care possible.

There are several people who come regularly which is important to us. The fact that she likes them all is a credit to them too. In general I am very pleased with the service provided. My main quibble is that staff whom I know and like, because they have come to me for a long time, are sometimes suddenly taken away and I hardly ever see them.
I need home helps rather than care.

I believe that Home Instead is the best care company operating in my neighbourhood.

This wonderful team of care workers helped me on a very difficult journey with my mother. Starting with an injury where we thought she would heal then moving onto end-of-life care when we discovered her liver cancer. Such a profession team that helped every step of the way even when it got very difficult. I can only thank God that there are people like these who are prepared to do this tough job ( both mentally and physically).

My mother passed away on the 13th October only 2 months after we found out. My heart goes out to anyone taking care of an elderly relative. I would not hesitate to recommend MJ services.

We made contact with Home Instead when my Mum's dementia was moderate and life was getting harder for both Mum and Dad at home.

When we met with Home Instead in 2023 the administration team took their time to get to really know not only Mum, but Dad as well and get a real picture of their lives and family. All the carers that Mum received were very caring and would take Mum out for walks and take her to Reminiscence learning as well in addition to personal care. This gave Dad time and space as well. Sadly Mum's dementia took a sudden much faster downturn which has meant Mum needing to go into a nursing home. We have however chosen to have a continued link with Home Instead given their excellent service level where they now support Dad at this stage with some Companionship.

My elderly father is now in declining health and a professional care package needed to be arranged to enable him to return home from hospital after a recent fall.
I contacted Home Instead after receiving a recommendation from a friend.
All members of the Home Instead team have been polite, professional and courteous right from the very start of the process to set up Dad's care package.
Without exception, the standard of care now being provided by all the Home Instead care professionals and support team has been outstanding. Genuinely caring people.

It has been very reassuring for me to have their professional help in place, and the ability for me to view their visit notes via a secure app on my phone is proving to be of tremendous value to me as Dad's relative.

I have spinal sclerosis & osteoarthritis, and I live with continual pain. My daughter contacted several care agencies & found Home Instead appeared to be the best agency for my needs. My experience to date with the agency has been excellent. They adopt a holistic approach to my personal care. I am able to maintain control over my meals as far as I can manage, whilst the carers help me with all aspects of my care that I cannot manage. One carer has been involved in most of my care, and when she is off duty, another carer covers the session. The continuity of care has been maintained by introducing the relief members of staff beforehand. I look forward to their visits each week. Both women are an asset to the company. I am a retired nurse, midwife, health visitor & psychologist. Thank you for allowing me to respond to this survey.

Hannah Sharland

Prior to working for Home Instead, Hannah spent 11 years in a busy optical and audiology environment. She worked her way through the company, experiencing different avenues, challenging herself and eventually ended up as a Learning and Development Specialist across 3 busy high street stores in the South West.

Hannah says that one of her proudest moments at Home Instead is making over 100 crochet poppies for all Home Instead’s clients on Remembrance Day, it will be a core memory she will keep forever.
