Visiting Angels took over the care of my husband two years ago. He is cared for at home. They have provided carers who are exceptional in the quality of the care they give. His dementia has made him extremely challenging to feed. The agency has had to work hard at finding carers my husband responds to. The management is very 'hands on' and looks after the carers welfare and so, there has been very little change in care staff. I believe that staff retention is down to the support the staff receive. Making them feel appreciated, not just by myself and other family members as we do but importantly, by management.
Importantly, carers offer both physical and cognitive care. Having had experience of carers both in a care home setting and in home care, I know that this is, sadly, quite unusual. Cognitive care means, for example, clients with dementia are encouraged to participate in activities, not just sit in a chair or positioned in front of a TV.
