An incredible team help my mother on a daily basis. On set up, they plan how the care will be conducted right through to the fine detail of her likes/dislikes and general wishes. They help manage medication and when they visit they help make her day through social contact, conversation, care and support.

When situations arise that make life difficult for the family (living a long way from my mother) they jump in to support and go the extra mile which gives us even greater confidence in the support she is getting.

An incredible team of caring individuals. Highly recommended! They should all be paid double - please don't tell them I said that!

Thank you for your wonderful reply and feedback for the team. They have all built up a great rapport with supporting Mum and enabling her to live well and as independent as possible at home. We are pleased to hear that this also provides valuable reassurance to you as a family.

We receive excellent support from both the caregivers and the office staff.
The caregivers are friendly and interested in my dad and his well being. They go out of their way to observe both his health and his needs and work in conjunction with us to ensure he is as supported and happy as possible.
The office and scheduling staff go out of their way to meet his needs even when these are often changing, both for medical appointments and to allow him to attend clubs and social events. This is always done in a friendly helpful way that doesn't make us feel we are being a nuisance.

Thank you

Thank you for your lovely reply and kind words. It is a pleasure working with Dad and I know that his Care Professionals have a special rapport and bond with him, and that they love to visit. We are pleased to hear that the support provided is beneficial to Dads wellbeing too!

I first contacted Home Instead when they were recommended by a friend. All of my contact with them on the phone and in person has been professional and efficient but also really friendly. Everyone I have spoken to and met has been genuinely lovely. We have used them now for daytime visits, sleeping night visits and also live in respite care. I feel so much happier when I know someone from Home Instead is with mum because they have all been so amazing with her. Patient, kind and understanding. Mum has always got on well with the carers who have come and has benefitted from their company as much as anything. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody who needs some help to stay in their own home.

Thank you for your review and kind words - it really is appreciated to hear the feedback and how friendly the team have been, particularly as you have had experience with both our Home and Live-In care side. It's wonderful to know that the Care Professionals have been well matched and that Mum has got along well with them. Many thanks, again!

I was reluctant to arrange for carers as up until now although disabled I have been independent. However, I had become nervous about getting into and out of the shower. I therefore arranged to have carers attend for one hour on four mornings and it has made a great difference to my life. The two carers who share the hours are a splendid combination of kindness and efficiency. They are thoughtful and caring with none of the condescension with which I often see my age group treated. We have built up good relationships and I'm always glad when it is a morning when one of them attends. Incidentally the chiropodist who visits regularly is very impressed by the difference they have made to my feet. I cannot praise highly enough the service I am receiving.

My mum has a couple of carers who pop in four times a week for companionship visits. Mum looks forward to them coming and they have such a laugh together. They have made Mum so much happier and I know that if there is a problem, the office will inform me. The service they offer is life-changing, not only for Mum but also for me.

I continue to be very impressed with all at Home Instead, who strive to keep Mum safe and comfortable at home.

All carers are introduced to Mum, before working with her. All carers are very flexible, maintain personal care but also ensuring the home is safe, clean and comfortable. They also keep Mum's plants watered which she greatly appreciates.

My father has been having care at home daily from Home Instead for over a year now. The care was required quickly, after a sudden unexpected stroke that caused chaos and upheaval for all the family. After a very bad experience with a different agency, the client-focused pre-review, ongoing daily updates, team-centric care my father receives was and has been a very welcome addition to my families life.
It allowed me to return to work and regain my life with the knowledge that my parents are well cared for.
I am kept well informed via the daily portal, plus know I will be contacted directly if the team have any concerns.
I have recommended Home Instead to other friends who have faced changing times for their families.
The team members who look after my father are caring, professional, and extremely reliable. They follow the agreed care plan and always highlight any health issues if noted.

The regular reviews provide the opportunity to update the care plan if required.

Reply from Glenda Arendse, Field Care Supervisor at Home Instead (Southampton)

Thank you for your feedback and kind words. It has been an absolute pleasure and honour supporting Mum and Dad. The team look forward to hearing Mum's childhood stories, and her lovely sense of humour brightens their day. The team are equally very fond of Dad and we are pleased to hear that the consistency of a regular and reliable team ensures his health needs are met in a timely manner.

The lovely staff at Home Instead went well above and beyond to ensure the changing needs of my uncle were catered for. Over a period of a couple of years, his health was deteriorating, from a spritely independent widowed man to one that needed ever-increasing levels of care and attention. Home Instead staff, both at the coal face and in the office, ensured his safety, dignity and self-respect were maintained, at home, for as long as possible.

I cannot thank them enough for the peace of mind they gave us.

Have been using Home Instead for over 2 years to care for Mum. Have recently increased care visits as Mum's needs have increased. Her Team of carers are exceptional. They consider all her needs with kindness and in detail. They are doing all the things that I would do as her daughter. The little extra touches that they think of are very much appreciated. They are very attentive to her medical needs and Home Instead have acted upon these promptly. They are a valuable link between Mum and GP.

Reply from Laura Ayling, Field Care Manager at Home Instead (Southampton)

We cannot fault Home Instead for the care and compassion they have given my mum and the support to me when things get really tough dealing with a loved one with Lewy bodies dementia. We have had other caregivers in the past but they do not even come anywhere near the attention that Home Instead pay my mum especially when she is having a bad time.

Thank you, Home Instead your caregivers are our lifesavers.

Reply from Wendy Gilbert, Field Care Supervisor at Home Instead (Southampton)

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We understand how important having support for Mum is, especially with this type of dementia and it's a pleasure to be there for you both for support and comfort. I know that Mum's Care Professional loves seeing her each week and I think they get as much enjoyment from their trips out as the other!

Service is well organised and reliable. In my case there are four individuals who provide the service, they were all introduced by the supervisor before they started and I have an assurance that no individual will become involved until they have been introduced. On each visit, notes are recorded so that on the next visit any issues can be followed up. I am notified by phone if anyone is delayed e.g. by traffic congestion.
All the individuals are very flexible and happy to carry out whatever tasks I need. They each have a friendly and supportive approach and often identify tasks which they deal with unasked.

Dealing with the same people regularly adds a social element which is beneficial for mental wellbeing.

From our very first contact with Home Instead, we have experienced nothing other than care, compassion and professionalism. The carers looking after Dad are compassionate and clearly have his needs as their number one priority. If there's anything that concerns them, we know about it immediately. We hadn't realised it would be possible to keep Dad at home, in his home, and they have made that a reality. I know that they will continue to do everything they can to help support Dad and the family to keep Dad at home as long as we can.

My father has been receiving excellent care since March 2024 this year from a team of 4 very caring, willing and thoughtful ladies. I cannot fault their reliability, continuity and punctuality. It helps me manage the worry and stress of caring for him knowing he values and gets on with all of them so well. I am also reassured if there are any issues communication is always available to resolve issues promptly and reviews are carried out on a regular basis.

I would highly recommend Home Instead.

Mum is really cared for. She is clean, warm and well-fed. Her needs are always met. The carers will let us know if Mum needs anything. They will let us know immediately if Mum is under the weather. The team at Home Instead Southampton have provided outstanding care for our mum over the last year, from when we first contacted them until she fell and fractured her hip on Christmas Eve. She has subsequently been admitted to a care home. When the management team came and visited us at Mum's home, they were very professional, knowledgeable, appropriately friendly and made Mum feel valued and listened to. On a later visit they brought her carers to meet her. We were very impressed with the service they provide.
They immediately built a brilliant rapport with Mum which grew as time went on. Their care of Mum was second to none, even to the point of immediately raising any concerns relating to her medical or physical needs to the GP to ensure it was addressed in a timely manner. They met all of Mum's care needs and in many cases "went that extra mile!"

As a senior nursing sister my hopes and expectations for my mum's care were always met, as were those of others. I highly recommend them!

Reply from Laura Ayling, Field Care Manager at Home Instead (Southampton)

Thank you for your lovely review. Right from the moment that I completed Mum's consultation and introduced her Care Professionals to her before her first visit, I could see that they would be the prefect match for each other! Our carer brought with her a range of appropriate skills and a can-do attitude. We had a challenge with moving and disposing of furniture in preparation for the fitting of a lift from ground to first floor and, of course, vice versa. She was full of good ideas which were practical and sensible; and worked hard to see they were done!

We also met the management staff who were very clear in their instructions and what the carer could do. It was clear that they had trained their employees with a range of skills to cover a wide range of tasks. Furthermore they had applied risk analysis so that clients would live more safely. All-in-all a firm that knew the business and would provide a good resilient service which included matching suitable carers to suitable clients. We thoroughly recommend them.

The managers, staff, and carers at Home Instead Southampton are really good. My mother had used them for a couple of years. She had a fall 10 weeks ago, ended up in hospital, and went to a care home.

She seemed well enough to go back home after about 9 weeks. Home Instead did a fantastic job helping to get her home but unfortunately it became clear my mother was not fit enough, even with three visits a day. I was physically and emotionally exhausted keeping an eye on her after the first night, they could not have been more caring or understanding for me and my mother. The management were clearly more concerned about our well-being than the loss of business. I could not recommend them more strongly. I would like to thank them all for their loving professionalism.

Thank you for such a lovely review – it is a shame that Mum is unable to remain in her own home, but it was a pleasure to get to know you and her through the process and her time with Home Instead. Mum is a very special lady, and her stories will be missed by the Care Professionals.

I joined Home Instead in April 2013 and was responsible for CAREGiver recruitment.

I have over 30 years of experience in recruitment and obtained my qualifications with the REC, of which I am a Fellow. I also have an NVQ 4 in Management and a Certificate in Personnel Practice.

Before joining Home Instead, I worked for 11 years within the Health and Social Care sector as a Registered Manager. During this time, I also managed a Specialist Nurses Division, recruiting Theatre Nurses, Prison Nurses, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Health Nurses and Learning Disability Nurses.

My experiences working within the healthcare sector have definitely been the most fulfilling. I am passionate about helping older people retain their independence and dignity and remain safely in their own homes. Selecting the right people to join our family of CAREGivers keeps me extremely busy, but it is always interesting meeting new people and offering them the opportunity to join us and make a real difference to older people. I watch them grow in confidence and hear about the relationships they have with our clients, and it makes me really proud of my role, connecting people and making them feel good.

I also help out at the memory cafe we run every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. This makes a change to being in the office but also gives me a chance to meet people who are coping with dementia, and I try to brighten up their day if I can.

I get to meet and greet everyone who comes to our lovely office, so there is really never a dull moment in my working day. I share Home Instead's values and ethos, and I know that by being part of the team, we all work hard to make all the difference we can.
