We found Right at Home following my mother's dementia diagnosis when we had been feeling quite apprehensive about using home care for the first time. However we immediately knew we were in good hands and felt fully supported from the start. Right at Home had a really professional understanding of the
difficulties our mother faced with her dementia and drew up a plan of how they could help her overcome them with the right carers. We always knew mummy would have a proper meal cooked and any anxieties that had arisen with her would always be dealt with compassionately and with kindness by her lovely carers. They always had time for interesting activities too: card games, jigsaws, reading with her and sowing seeds to plant into her garden. On no occasion was mummy left without a carer at the scheduled time, and communication with us was always good and any concerns we had were dealt with immediately.
We would highly recommend Right at Home to anyone needing care in the home.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review, I will pass this onto the team that look after your mum. As Dementia specialists we really do understand what it means to be able to return peace of mind to families and loved ones to the people we are caring for. We always try to match our carers to clients with our no strangers policy and minimum one hour visits means that we have time to build really special relationships. Thank you once again.

I have been using Right at Home for nearly a year now. The carers have all been excellent. It is great to have continuity with who comes. Most have become friends as well as carers.
I was delighted with the way management and carers rallied round when I was suddenly discharged from hospital recently.

My father has been a client for 4 years. After an initial period of a variety of carers alternating, we are now in a very satisfactory position of alternating two carers. This works very well. Both carers are very caring carers. They provide a very friendly, emphatic yet professional service. Thank
you.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so much for taking the time to write in, we really do have an amazing team of CareGivers. I have been in the care of Right at Home for two and a half years.
The care which can only be described as marvellous due to the team of carers and staff who always do what they say they are going to.
Telephone messages are always responded to and if I need help, advice or even sometimes just someone
to talk to, the manager is always available and one team member regularly phones me to make sure that I am alright.
This month my printer failed and the team organised, delivered and set up a replacement for me. This is care, I did the right thing in asking for Right at Home for support when I came out of the hospital.
Now aged ninety, finding the words I want to use is not easy, all I can say is, thank you all at Right at Home.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so much! We love working with you and your team of carers think very highly of you. Each person enjoys seeing your cards and art to organising the printer was a real pleasure. I will pass your kind words on to the team.

The whole team at Right at Home have been fantastic. Everyone has a genuine understanding of Dementia and treated my father with care and compassion. We have made some real friends with the care team and will miss them all very much. The care provided by Right at Home has enabled my father to live
in his own home for far longer than he would otherwise have been able to.
When making the very difficult decision for my father to move into a Care Home full time the team at Right at Home supported me and provided the help and guidance that enabled me to make the right choices.
I cannot thank you all enough for everything you have done for our family.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so much for your review. I know how much the team of Dementia specialist carers have enjoyed working with your whole family and your kind words will mean so much to them all.

We used Right at Home for just under two years to assist with my mother who had Alzheimer's and was very resistant to having both care and going into a home but had to have help. From the very first visit, this care provider was wonderful. The manager who came to visit us understood Mum's concerns and
mine and helped us quickly understand the need for Mum. Our very first carer was quite simply wonderful, perfect for Mum and for me and very quickly Mum adored her and looked forward to her twice daily visits.
The relief for me was enormous and great care was taken when the carer went on holiday to ensure that a suitable replacement was found for Mum. I wish I had known about this company when we needed care for my father, I recommend them to everyone! Our first carer was with us until Mum was no longer safe to live at home and we had to move her to a specialist care home. Even now this carer will pop in and see Mum in her own time and message me to see how she is. They were wonderful.
Reply from Alastair Shanks, Owner at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamTania, what lovely comments - thank you. I feel very proud of our wonderful team and I know they will love to see this review.

it admirably.

On the whole, the care that my great aunt has received has been very good.
Due to my great aunt's ill health and frailty from coming out of hospital, progress has been slow but the care she has been provided with has definitely met her needs to date.
The carers have always supported my great aunt
in a person-centred manner and she would definitely not be as well as she is now.
The care has enabled her to still be in her own home and to have the familiarity of friends and relatives that visit as they always have, this has been particularly important since her formal diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
My great aunt has been fortunate to have continuity of care from the same carers that understand her as a person despite the illness, enabling her to be herself despite her illness in as much as this can be supported and enabled.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so much for taking the time to write this kind review, we really pride ourselves on providing the best person-centred care. As dementia specialists we do understand the importance of continuity in the care received by our clients, this is supported with our no-strangers policy.

Wonderful ladies, willing to do anything, including filling bird feeders as difficult with a broken wrist. They were all quick and efficient and so friendly - it was nice to have a chat while they were peeling fruit or slicing bread. Personal care is not required, so I would call them helpers rather
than carers.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so much for your lovely review, I will make sure your carers know you have said such kind words. Right at Home has supported my sister in her home and community for four years throughout the stages of her dementia until very recently when she was admitted to a nursing home to be nearer to family. The care and support given was excellent, with management receptive to ideas to support staff and service
users. All interventions were provided in a highly professional manner by caregivers. Office staff contact was again delivered in a kind and caring manner. I will always be grateful to Right at Home.

Right at Home in Guildford has been providing a service to my mother since the start of the year. They have always provided good, well-trained people who have helped my mother in doing key things such as getting up, washing and breakfast in the morning and getting ready for bed in the evenings. In addition,
if they have spotted problems they have informed me of them such as when my mother had a fall. They tend to get the same people to visit her as much as they can each day so that my mother has familiar faces coming in to help her which is very pleasing. I can thoroughly recommend them for their very caring and professional service.
Reply from Liz Young, Business Development Manager at Right at Home Guildford & FarnhamThank you so, so much for your recommendation for our wonderful team of carers. Our no strangers policy is essential to our company values and ethos as well as creating a family feel service. I will pass your kind words on to the team.

I feel so fortunate to have the care needed for my mum provided by Right at Home. I can honestly say in the year and a half that we have been with the company, there has not been one carer that has not provided my mum with the best care possible. Although apprehensive at first, my mum has developed
some lovely friendships with all her carers and looks forward to their visits. They treat her with respect and dignity and are extremely skilled at knowing when to provide support and when to step back to enable her to maintain her independence. It’s extremely hard and upsetting when a loved one becomes frail or ill, requiring support from others, but it gives me great peace of mind as her daughter to know that whilst I can’t change her diagnosis, she is provided with the highest quality of care which enables her to have the best quality of life possible. Please can I pass on a huge thanks to all her carers who make such a positive difference to the lives of so many. You are invaluable!

I cannot thank all the wonderful carers from Right at Home who have helped with my recovery following knee surgery, As I have no family living nearby I needed help. My daughter found this excellent company on line and it was so easy to arrange daily visits. From day one I knew it was the right choice.
Nothing has been too much trouble from help with showering , laundry housework and being taken shopping. Each carer has been a joy. I would thoroughly recommend this company to anyone needing care. Should I need help in the future I know who to contact.

My father in his later years has been using Right At Home carers to support his care in the morning. Not only do the carers arrive on time, they arrive with smiles and a wonderful sense of humour, waltzing home down the corridor in his home to encourage him to reach and use the shower!
The carers allow
him to do as much as he can himself and support him as needed in a safe and dignity maintaining way.
They do not hesitate to go above and beyond, helping him, and I, to come to terms with the increasing limitations to his memory and mobility. They have taken on board his regular exercise routine with happy encouragement.
In the days leading up to his final difficulties, the emotional attachment of his carers was clear, and their support of myself and the rest of the family was exemplary.
We can only say a heartfelt thank you to you all for keeping us smiling and ensuring that feeling of safety and confidence when it was most needed.

I looked at a number of 'at home' care providers and Right at Home stood out. I felt that one of the most important factors for someone suffering from dementia is continuity of care and this can only be provided if the same caregiver was assigned to your loved one. The matrix approach favoured by other
providers is not something you will find at Right at Home. The Manager took the time to get to know my father and assigned the right CareGiver for his needs. We were assigned the lovely CareGiver who my father grew to trust and respect and as a consequence, his care needs were met more effectively. We developed a good communication system between the family and Right at Home and they were always available at the end of the phone if advice was needed. I would thoroughly recommend them.

Alastair Owner & Managing Director

Job Title: Founder Joined: 2012

Alastair realised back in 2012 that homecare was a very rewarding way to work within his local community and was successful in joining the growing team of Right at Home local owners/operators.

"My role has changed significantly since I started the business in 2012, Alastair explains. I am still involved in defining our strategic plans, overseeing the values and culture of our business and leading the senior team."

Alastair described working at Right at Home as rewarding, varied, and safe.

Rhys

Rhys Bailey

Job Title: Deputy Managing Director Joined: 2021

Rhys joined the Right at Home team in 2021 as Head of Finance & Business Development, after realising the difference Homecare can make to individuals. Rhys' job allows him to "oversee all finance-related activities and ensure the business is building partnerships with local authorities, communities and businesses in the local area." Since then, in the summer of 2025, Rhys got a promotion to Deputy Manager Director!

"Completing business-wide financial processes from KPIs to payroll to management accounts. There is nothing more satisfying than implementing a new process and seeing how that affects business performance. "

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did prior to joining Right at Home?

Before joining Right at Home I worked in the promotional merchandise industry. Anything you could brand, we would print. We operated as a global solution meaning I had the pleasure of working on US, Europe and Asia timezones. I've always worked in finance ever since leaving sixth form and have a real passion for understanding how everything works from the economy to budgeting.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

Knowing what this industry gives back was key to my decision. Having close relatives worked in this sector I knew exactly what feeling you get when leaving and going home. That feeling of a job well done. Of really making a difference to someone. I say it to everyone I come across, certainly ex-employees from my time in the City. This role is incredibly rewarding, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I'm always looking ahead. Strategically thinking about ways to grow the organisation and improve processes to increase efficiency. I spend time catching up with the CareGivers to discuss pensions, holiday pots or budgeting. From a client's perspective, I make sure that they continue having the best quality homecare that puts our name on the map.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?

I assisted a client with an old printer they had. When I say old, I mean 22+ years old. Not the kind of printer you can pick up from your local Currys or Argos. Both myself and the branch in question made it our mission to get this individual printing again (as they make the most wonderful cards that EVERYONE enjoys). We sourced the printer on eBay. Negotiated a price. Received the item and made sure this was all setup for them to start using straight away. Its still going to this day! The way I can tell is because everyone in the office has received a Christmas card!

What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?

I can speak Spanish. I used to be fluent after spending 5 years of my childhood living in Tenerife.

What’s your favourite thing about working with your colleagues?

We are all just so, so different. In my previous role, it was very sales-driven and sales-based, meaning we had one mould of person. Here it is completely different. I think everyone here has done care in the past, and I love just how enthusiastically they speak about the sector. It's infectious!

Claire’s return to college and her desire to ‘give something back’ were the key motivations that kick-started her career in care. Can you share a bit about your background and what you did before joining Right at Home?

I am a proud mother of four and someone who values lifelong learning. After taking time to focus on my family, I returned to my studies as a mature student, which led to my degree in social work. Following that, I worked for a charity for several years, where I was able to make a meaningful impact by supporting unpaid carers and families.

What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?

My caregiving journey has been shaped by a lot of personal experiences and life events. Supporting my elderly grandmother as she aged was a big part of it - it showed me how much of a difference a little care and compassion can make. As a mother of four, I’ve always been in the role of looking after others, and when I went back to school to study social work, it gave me a deeper understanding of how to support people in meaningful ways.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

Their commitment to providing truly person-centred care. Right at Home focuses on quality care by offering hourly visits. This means we have the time to build real connections and provide the support people need without feeling rushed.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me starts with checking my emails and completing any necessary admin tasks. I often visit other offices to make sure everything is on track and offer support as needed. No two days are exactly the same, but that’s part of what makes it so rewarding.

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

What I enjoy most about my role is visiting the clients and seeing firsthand the difference our carers make in their lives and the impact they have on their well-being. I love listening to the carers and hearing their stories about going the extra mile, it’s a privilege to be part of a team that genuinely cares about making a difference.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?

Anya

Anya Day

Job Title: Coordinator for Team Guildford Joined: 2025

Anya first joined the Right at Home family in Autumn 2023, taking on her very first role as a Carer at just 18 years old. For about a year, she made a difference every day, providing person-centred care to her clients.

Anya briefly explored a different career path as an Activities Coordinator, but she soon realised she missed the fulfilment of being a Carer and the Right at Home team. Luckily for us, she rejoined Right at Home, excited to reconnect with her wonderful clients. Less than two months after her return, the perfect opportunity arose! Anya was promoted to Care Coordinator for the Guildford team; with her firsthand experience as a Carer, who better for the role!

What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?

"I’ve always had a natural instinct to help others, and I’m definitely drawn to roles where I can genuinely make a difference in someone’s daily life. My family always encouraged me to try a career in care. Caregiving allows me to build meaningful connections, offer companionship and provide support to people when they need it most. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that even the small things I do can have a big impact on someone’s well-being and quality of life!"

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

"What drew me to Right at Home initially definitely and what brought me back is the company’s commitment to promoting independence for clients and their values. From day one, I have felt valued and supported as a team member and this allows me to do my job confidently and gives me so much motivation to push and be the best I can possibly be. The high standards we have as a company and genuine care for both clients and carers really stood out to me, and I knew it was a place where I could grow and thrive in my career."

What does a typical day look like for you?

"A typical day for me starts with checking my rota and preparing for my visits. Each visit is unique, and every one needs something different, but I often support clients with personal care, medication and mobility. However, my most important thing is companionship. I will always make time to chat and emotionally connect with clients and their families, which is just as important as the practical side. I keep notes updated, communicate with the office if needed and always aim to leave each visit knowing the client feels cared for and respected. If I can make them smile even once, I will leave feeling good. I am still new to my role as a coordinator, but solving problems and offering support and communication with our amazing team and clients is something I am familiar with and excited to continue doing."

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement?

"One memorable moment was supporting a client with dementia who rarely engaged with anyone. Over time, I built a strong connection with her, and one day she surprised everyone by recognising me and giving me a hug when I arrived. It was such a small moment, but for me it meant the world and reminded me how powerful consistent compassionate care can be. We enjoy every visit together now, and it makes me so proud that we were able to break through that barrier and have her feel comfortable and safe. The difference in her has been amazing to watch."

What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?

"Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my family and my lovely boyfriend. We enjoy going for walks and exploring new places together. Living in the countryside means we get to unwind in the garden or relax in the hot tub, it’s the perfect way to switch off. One of my favourite ways to relax is curling up on the sofa with my dogs, watching a good TV show, and enjoying the little moments with the people I care about most. I truly believe it’s the small things in life that make a big difference. Having these hobbies helps me stay balanced and brings even more positive energy into my work."

Do you have any pets? If so, what?

"I have 2 miniature dachshunds, they are my world. We also have 2 rescue dogs, one of which has 3 legs! And we have a beautiful horse."

3. A never-ending snack stash. This may not be realistic, but being stranded sounds stressful, and snacks make everything better.
