I cannot thank all the wonderful carers from Right at Home who have helped with my recovery following knee surgery, As I have no family living nearby I needed help. My daughter found this excellent company on line and it was so easy to arrange daily visits. From day one I knew it was the right choice. Nothing has been too much trouble from help with showering , laundry housework and being taken shopping. Each carer has been a joy. I would thoroughly recommend this company to anyone needing care. Should I need help in the future I know who to contact.

This review really covers the three years that the fantastic ladies of Right at Home Farnham helped look after my mother. What wonderful people they are and what an amazing job they did. We are extremely grateful for all their hard work and care, really amazing. Mum couldn't have stayed at home so long if weren't for the absolutely wonderful care they delivered. I can rate them highly enough, thank you very much.

My father in his later years has been using Right At Home carers to support his care in the morning. Not only do the carers arrive on time, they arrive with smiles and a wonderful sense of humour, waltzing home down the corridor in his home to encourage him to reach and use the shower!
The carers allow him to do as much as he can himself and support him as needed in a safe and dignity maintaining way.
They do not hesitate to go above and beyond, helping him, and I, to come to terms with the increasing limitations to his memory and mobility. They have taken on board his regular exercise routine with happy encouragement.
In the days leading up to his final difficulties, the emotional attachment of his carers was clear, and their support of myself and the rest of the family was exemplary.

We can only say a heartfelt thank you to you all for keeping us smiling and ensuring that feeling of safety and confidence when it was most needed.

I looked at a number of 'at home' care providers and Right at Home stood out. I felt that one of the most important factors for someone suffering from dementia is continuity of care and this can only be provided if the same caregiver was assigned to your loved one. The matrix approach favoured by other providers is not something you will find at Right at Home. The Manager took the time to get to know my father and assigned the right CareGiver for his needs. We were assigned the lovely CareGiver who my father grew to trust and respect and as a consequence, his care needs were met more effectively. We developed a good communication system between the family and Right at Home and they were always available at the end of the phone if advice was needed. I would thoroughly recommend them.

The carers efficiently took control of the situation, prepared a room for an extra carer to sleep. All brought a spectrum of caring skills for my wife. This relieved me when I was recalled to hospital several times.
Our Right at Home carers have good interpersonal skills so necessary when dealing with intimate care issues, are gentle but quick to identify and manage risks as my wife’s needs change. We enjoy a small group of regular and dependable carers who understand what help is needed beyond personal issues. They are part of a larger team led by the manager who is also one of our hands-on carers. This way she can anticipate how the care should be ready to meet new challenges as my wife’s condition inevitably develops. Her needs are usually well anticipated. When necessary, I can rely on the staff to liaise with other professionals such as Occupational Therapy.

We feel blessed with such a skilled, reliable and dedicated team that can continue as long as is needed.

I am very happy with the care that my mum receives with Right at Home. All the carers are lovely and Mum really enjoys their visits. They are friends more than carers in my mum's eyes and that is how good care should be. I am kept well informed about my mum's health and progress and I can see on the app what has happened during each visit which keeps me up to date with any issues. The carers are always looking for ways to improve on the care they give by asking what else they can do to make the client happy.

We came to Right At Home after a poor experience with the NHS visits, which resulted in my father and partner deciding they were better doing it all themselves, which was a huge struggle for them.
We came to you after a recommendation from a family member using your services for their mother in a nearby town.
Once meeting the lead carer at my father's house we decided unanimously that we would give Right At Home a go and see how it would work. Their initial reluctance was quickly replaced with praise and they really like all three employees who come to his house. No one wants this kind of help, but the girls are always praised for their professionalism and ease of manner that makes the necessary experience the best it could possibly be.

Your lead carer has gone over and above to speak to me, reply to emails/texts, move care dates and times and help my father and partner and I can't praise her enough.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We understand how tough it can be to look after loved ones, our caregivers are trained to the highest standards but they are also compassionate, hard-working and genuinely want to make life better for clients and their families. I will pass on your kind words, I know your caregivers will appreciate them very much.

I have had the most wonderful experience with Right at Home. When I first joined the agency I was asked if I had a preference for who I worked with and also times. The care plan was extremely detailed and tailored to me. The carers have felt so much like family with the real kindness and consideration they have shown to me. The staff make excellent use of every minute of my care call and have left me feeling so positive and like I am part of the world again. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff or the ethos of Right at Home.

The ‘no stranger’ policy is a winner. Mum always gets to meet a new carer before assigned care. Great attention is paid to treating the client with respect and preserving dignity. Mum is always able to choose what she wants done when. Excellent communication means I am kept aware of any issues so they can be dealt with promptly. Likewise, any issues I raise are acted upon promptly. We have had a very high calibre of carers and I would have no hesitation in recommending this company at all.

Thank you for taking the time to write - very much appreciated by me and the team. Our "No Strangers" Policy is important to us, if I put myself in the shoes of any of our clients I would definitely want to know who was coming to care for me so that is what we should do for our clients. Glad it is working for you! Thanks again.

My father-in-law only received four days of care before he died but he and the family were very grateful for the services of Right At Home GF. Firstly, they managed to carry out a consultation on the same day that I asked for help, fitting us in at the last minute because of the urgency of our needs. At that meeting, I was struck by the professionalism of their manager and the no-nonsense explanation of all aspects of their services. None of my questions were left unanswered and I felt my father-in-law would be in good hands. Care began the next day. Again, a quick turnaround compared to other agencies that I contacted who had no appointments available for five or six days. My father-in-law said he'd had the 'pampering of a lifetime' after the first session. The carers were bright, friendly people and nothing was too much trouble. The fees were within the average band for the UK and there were no unfair or contentious clauses in the contract. I would thoroughly recommend. Many thanks.

Right at Home GF provide care for my uncle, who requires additional support after his wife sadly passed away in 2020. I can't thank all of the caregivers, office team and management staff enough for their professionalism, kindness and excellent quality of care. My uncle really appreciates the companionship the carers provide. Nothing appears to be too much trouble, on two occasions emergency overnight care was provided at very short notice, which we were all extremely grateful for. Family members are also well informed and kept up to date with any issues. The valued support from Right at Home GF has allowed my uncle to continue to live in his own home for the immediate future. The company is well led and concerns are raised and dealt with efficiently and effectively. I would not hesitate in recommending Right at Home GF to friends and family seeking care providers.

Thank you for your lovely words. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful team. It is down to the dedication and flexibility of our caregivers who step in to cover overnight care at short notice that enables us to provide this level of service. Right at Home have been such a great help to me with their care for my mum after having a stroke last year. We honestly can't thank the three carers and management enough for the time and fantastic support they showed Grandma. The three girls, in particular, showed so much love and dedication not only to Grandma but the whole family. They would always come in and say hello to my boys 6 and 9 and make sure they were okay as well as Grandpa before looking after Grandma. They showed Grandma love and helped keep her dignity until the end. Right at Home helped us keep Grandma at home as she wished. One of the carers has checked in with us since Grandma's passing to see if we need anything and has always gone out of her way to help even when Grandma was here. Without them, I'm not sure how we would have coped, especially with it being even harder in these funny times we live in now. We are so grateful for your love and support. We will 100% use them again if we ever need care for Grandpa.

The carers and management at Right at Home have been exceptional in the care that they have given to my dear friend over the last 2 years, but at Christmas, they went over and above the call of duty when my friend was taken to hospital on Christmas Eve. The care and concern shown by the carers and the office staff were unbelievable, and with the support of Right at Home, she was able to return home. Carers go the extra mile to ensure that she is cared for and happy, without them she would not be able to live independently. I have been overwhelmed by the genuine care and affection they have for her and can’t thank them enough.

Meet the Team (17)

Alastair Shanks Job Title: Managing Director & Business Owner Joined: 2012
Alastair Shanks

Alastair realised back in 2012 that homecare was a very rewarding way to work within his local community and was successful in joining the growing team of Right at Home local owners/operators.

"My role has changed significantly since I started the business in 2012, Alastair explains. "From being involved in every activity of the business to now having an amazing team that does all the hard work. I am still involved in defining our strategic plans, overseeing the values and culture of our business and leading the senior team."

"Although it is great to receive amazing feedback from our clients, I think the most rewarding part of my job is to support team members to fulfil their potential and grow their careers at Right at Home."

Alastair described working at Right at Home as rewarding, varied, and safe.

Rhys Bailey Job Title: Deputy Managing Director Joined: 2021
Rhys Bailey

Rhys joined the Right at Home team in 2021 as Head of Finance & Business Development, after realising the difference Homecare can make to individuals. Rhys' job allows him to "oversee all finance-related activities and ensure the business is building partnerships with local authorities, communities and businesses in the local area." Since then, in the summer of 2025, Rhys got a promotion to Deputy Manager Director!

"Completing business-wide financial processes from KPIs to payroll to management accounts. There is nothing more satisfying than implementing a new process and seeing how that affects business performance. "

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did prior to joining Right at Home?

Before joining Right at Home I worked in the promotional merchandise industry. Anything you could brand, we would print. We operated as a global solution meaning I had the pleasure of working on US, Europe and Asia timezones. I've always worked in finance ever since leaving sixth form and have a real passion for understanding how everything works from the economy to budgeting.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

Knowing what this industry gives back was key to my decision. Having close relatives worked in this sector I knew exactly what feeling you get when leaving and going home. That feeling of a job well done. Of really making a difference to someone. I say it to everyone I come across, certainly ex-employees from my time in the City. This role is incredibly rewarding, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I'm always looking ahead. Strategically thinking about ways to grow the organisation and improve processes to increase efficiency. I spend time catching up with the CareGivers to discuss pensions, holiday pots or budgeting. From a client's perspective, I make sure that they continue having the best quality homecare that puts our name on the map.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement that you have experienced as a caregiver?

I assisted a client with an old printer they had. When I say old, I mean 22+ years old. Not the kind of printer you can pick up from your local Currys or Argos. Both myself and the branch in question made it our mission to get this individual printing again (as they make the most wonderful cards that EVERYONE enjoys). We sourced the printer on eBay. Negotiated a price. Received the item and made sure this was all setup for them to start using straight away. Its still going to this day! The way I can tell is because everyone in the office has received a Christmas card!

What’s your hidden talent that (until now) most people don’t know about?

I can speak Spanish. I used to be fluent after spending 5 years of my childhood living in Tenerife.

What’s your favourite thing about working with your colleagues?

We are all just so, so different. In my previous role, it was very sales-driven and sales-based, meaning we had one mould of person. Here it is completely different. I think everyone here has done care in the past, and I love just how enthusiastically they speak about the sector. It's infectious!

Claire Skilton Job Title: Head of Compliance Joined: 2017
Claire Skilton

Claire’s return to college and her desire to ‘give something back’ were the key motivations that kick-started her career in care. Today, Claire oversees the compliance across all four of our territories. Claire’s role is vital in ensuring that Right at Home delivers the highest standards for everyone involved - our clients, caregivers, and employees. Her dedication to this is truly inspiring.

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did before joining Right at Home?

I am a proud mother of four and someone who values lifelong learning. After taking time to focus on my family, I returned to my studies as a mature student, which led to my degree in social work. Following that, I worked for a charity for several years, where I was able to make a meaningful impact by supporting unpaid carers and families.

What motivated you to pursue a career in caregiving?

My caregiving journey has been shaped by a lot of personal experiences and life events. Supporting my elderly grandmother as she aged was a big part of it - it showed me how much of a difference a little care and compassion can make. As a mother of four, I’ve always been in the role of looking after others, and when I went back to school to study social work, it gave me a deeper understanding of how to support people in meaningful ways.

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

Their commitment to providing truly person-centred care. Right at Home focuses on quality care by offering hourly visits. This means we have the time to build real connections and provide the support people need without feeling rushed.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me starts with checking my emails and completing any necessary admin tasks. I often visit other offices to make sure everything is on track and offer support as needed. No two days are exactly the same, but that’s part of what makes it so rewarding.

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

What I enjoy most about my role is visiting the clients and seeing firsthand the difference our carers make in their lives and the impact they have on their well-being. I love listening to the carers and hearing their stories about going the extra mile, it’s a privilege to be part of a team that genuinely cares about making a difference.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?

Crocheting

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Treat people how you’d want your loved ones to be treated.

What’s the most interesting thing you have learnt in the past month?

Your brain isn't fully formed until age 25!

Her dedication never goes unnoticed, and she is truly the glue that holds her team together.

Can you share a bit about your background and what you did before joining Right at Home?

I have worked in a marketing role for 20 years, the majority of which was in the promotional merchandise industry. Before this, I was at university studying Art History!

What inspired you to join Right at Home?

I loved the Right at Home company values, which are strongly aligned with my own and that it is a growing company which genuinely wants to do good things for people, whether it is the clients, their families or the carers!

What does a typical day look like for you?

I feel like there is no typical day for me! My role is so varied, which I love!! I can be doing anything from working with my team on recruitment or marketing strategies to making calls to carers to check in on their well-being. I work a lot on our internal and external communications and generally aim to make Right at Home the best place to work for everyone!

What do you enjoy or find most rewarding about your role?

All of it. I love my team, and I love seeing carers and clients, and when they are happy, I am happy.

Do you have any pets? If so, what?

My family always encouraged me to try a career in care. Caregiving allows me to build meaningful connections, offer companionship and provide support to people when they need it most. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that even the small things I do can have a big impact on someone’s well-being and quality of life!"

"What drew me to Right at Home initially definitely and what brought me back is the company’s commitment to promoting independence for clients and their values. From day one, I have felt valued and supported as a team member and this allows me to do my job confidently and gives me so much motivation to push and be the best I can possibly be. The high standards we have as a company and genuine care for both clients and carers really stood out to me, and I knew it was a place where I could grow and thrive in my career."

What does a typical day look like for you?

"A typical day for me starts with checking my rota and preparing for my visits. Each visit is unique, and every one needs something different, but I often support clients with personal care, medication and mobility. However, my most important thing is companionship. I will always make time to chat and emotionally connect with clients and their families, which is just as important as the practical side. I keep notes updated, communicate with the office if needed and always aim to leave each visit knowing the client feels cared for and respected. If I can make them smile even once, I will leave feeling good. I am still new to my role as a coordinator, but solving problems and offering support and communication with our amazing team and clients is something I am familiar with and excited to continue doing."

Over time, I built a strong connection with her, and one day she surprised everyone by recognising me and giving me a hug when I arrived. It was such a small moment, but for me it meant the world and reminded me how powerful consistent compassionate care can be. The difference in her has been amazing to watch."
