My mum has dementia and has companionship visits with her Home Instead carer. She loves going for coffee and visits to the hairdresser.
It makes her day to have someone to visit her when we can’t.
I’m so glad we made the decision to choose Home Instead!
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for this lovely review. I know that your mother's team love spending time with her and we are delighted that the visits are making such a positive difference to her life.

I am very pleased and reassured with the care that Mum has received from her caregivers at Home Instead. Mum is very comfortable with the ladies that provide her care as they have been consistently the same which has enabled her to get to know them and feel comfortable chatting to them. This social
contact along with the practical support they provide helps her enormously and brightens her day. The extra support enables her to enjoy the independence of living in her own home.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesMany thanks for this lovely review. We really appreciate you taking time to comment on the care provided to your mother.

I live an hour away and was looking for care support for my Mum, who is experiencing Alzheimer’s, to be sure she ate/drank and had more social contact. Mum was reluctant as she didn’t see the need. A friend recommended Home Instead and I also knew one of their care givers.
Since November Mum has the
same three care givers visiting over the week which is important. I (and my brother who lives abroad) can see the details of each visit through the app which care givers complete.
I stayed for the first weeks visits to meet Mum’s care givers who were introduced to Mum by the care coordinator. I have already seen many acts of kindness by her care givers which go beyond the job specification. Mum seems much happier and relaxed. She is supported with her gardening, embroidery, cooking and jigsaws. Her care givers were matched to Mum’s needs, personality and interests. With the Kendal office and three wonderful care givers I am part of a team around Mum rather than caring alone which is a relief.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for this review. We are delighted to hear that the team are making such a difference to your mum's life and that she seems happier. We are also pleased to hear that this is providing you and your brother with peace of mind.

When our funding came through from continuing healthcare the first place I approached was Home Instead. They visited us to gauge our needs and also what I would like to take from our experiences.
Within a few days, they got back to me and offered me the start of a care package that suited our requirements.
I was extremely anxious about how hubby would react but I needed not to.
The carers provided have been unbelievable at working with him. Their insight into his needs and demands. Yes, there's the odd hiccup but I would not go back and change a thing. In all honesty, they have kept me sane and capable of keeping hubby at home for a lot longer than I thought.
So thank you to all the team in Kendal.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you so much for this review. We really appreciate your lovely words and tribute to the team. It is our absolute pleasure to provide support to your husband.

My nonagenarian mother has quite rapidly progressive mixed dementia and was initially resistant to accepting any care at all. She has three daily visits with a broad range of care tasks. I’ve been pleasantly surprised in the current climate of carer shortages at what good care can be. The caregiver
team are highly professional and genuinely caring in their day to day duties, respecting her dignity and constant need for reassurance. The management team and the caregivers provide not only responsive care but also think things through and look ahead, advising my brother and I about issues that we may need attending to. They have several times gone more than the extra mile to help with pressing matters, thus avoiding more difficult problems. I am confident my mother is in conscientious, good hands.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for this wonderful review. Our team are really enjoying working with your mother and they will be delighted to know that you feel their care is making such a positive difference to her life. Home Instead carers provide care for my dad daily, which has been consistently helpful and supportive. I then had an unrelated issue to do with my car. The car dealership hadn't been very helpful in wanting to fix my car. One of our carers went the extra mile on checking into this a bit further. I'd
also called up the office to ask if they knew any good taxi firms etc. But between them, they pointed me in the right direction to be able to get the car fixed by a better garage. I was also pointed in the right direction from the office to be able to get the booster Covid jab at home for Dad rather than have to go out for it. All in all, I felt the staff at Home Instead were really willing to help in all aspects to support us the best they can. It's all been very much appreciated.

My husband is suffering from mixed dementia and seemed in need of more company. Home Instead arranged for a companion to come two mornings a week to chat with him and possibly take him out. At first, my husband was resistant to the arrangement but the companion gently pursued his commitment and won
my husband over so that after a few months he really looked forward to his visits and thoroughly enjoyed his company. I admired the companion's quiet determination and was grateful for the extra stimulation his visits and their outings provided for my husband.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for this lovely review. We are so pleased that the arrangement worked out so well for you and your husband. My husband was in palliative care for nearly three weeks. He was looked after by a small team of carers from Home Instead. The carers were excellent, punctual, efficient, kind and so helpful to him and me. We could not have received better care with such a feeling of love and dedication. We appreciated
the fact that we saw the same four main carers. Their care meant that my husband spent his last days in comfort and dignity.

Home Instead are looking after my dad, and my mum!
Mum was very much against having help for dad.
When I spoke to the company I made it clear of mums' feelings. They have made my mum feel so relaxed and important.
Dad is more than happy with 'His ladies!' We have 3 ladies that come in. All very
different people, the only thing that's the same is the kindness and care they show.
They all go above and beyond their duties. They are part of our family now.
For me, Home Instead with the team are heaven-sent.
I would and already have recommended this organisation.
Thank you girls.

I spent quite a bit of time researching local care companies when my aunt needed care. I live far away so wanted someone trustworthy and reliable, caring and empathic. Home Instead use an app that allows me to monitor how my aunt is and the care given on my phone.
The group of ladies who came were
nice and friendly and my aunt liked them all right away. Nothing was too much trouble, helping her wash and dress and making her food and generally helping with the house.
In the few months they have been coming my aunts quality of life has improved. She was miserable and had lost interest in a lot of the things she loved.
My aunt now enjoys watching all the birds attracted to her garden by the feeders which the carers now see to on her behalf. She has also started listening to her CDs again and tells everyone about how she and my uncle went dancing all the time.
My aunt has cared for a lot of people and deserves to be well looked after now. I believe she is.

We really appreciate you taking the time to review our service at this difficult time. Thank you for trusting us with her care which we all took very seriously. My sisters and I would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the team of carers who have supported and befriended our dear mum over these past three months. Mum has so appreciated the professional and personal care, help and compassion given by each of them. For us, although for a relatively
short time, it has been so good to know Mum is so well cared for and to see Mum enjoying her life.

Home Instead (South Lakes) have been providing excellent care and support to my mum over the last six months. The care package began very quickly and any minor teething problems were remedied quickly and effectively. The carers are all friendly, helpful and my mum really appreciates her visits. Her
life has become more comfortable and although her health issues remain, they are somewhat eased because of the excellent care from Home Instead (South Lakes). During this strange and difficult time that the world has been going through with Covid-19, Home Instead (South Lakes) have been brilliant. Visits have continued as usual, with the carers wearing PPE. Communication with the office is always quick, friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for home care within South Cumbria, I can highly recommend Home Instead (South Lakes).

Our Mother was one of Home Instead (S Lakeland) first clients. Initially Mum simply wanted some companionship - Home Instead (SL) provided and fulfilled this wish, and Mum was very content and looked forward to the daily visits of the Home Instead staff. Gradually as Mum's health started to decline
and Home Instead (South Lakes) stepped up to the plate providing help with bathing, shopping, taking Mum to the doctor's - ironing and indeed helpful assistance however it was asked for.
Eventually Mum took the very difficult decision to leave her home of 37 years to go into a nursing home as it had become obvious that she needed 24/7 nursing care.
Throughout the whole time Home Instead provided care for Mum, we have nothing but the highest praise for their total professionalism and truly compassionate style of operating a very special care service. Without a doubt Home Instead helped Mum through a difficult patch with care and dedication. We have recommended their services to several friends - who now use their services.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for your lovely words. It has been our great privilege to care for your mother for over 2 1/2 years and we are so pleased that we were able to help her to remain in her own home for so long. We wish her all the best in her new home and as soon as COVID restrictions allow, her team will be popping in to visit her. Thank you also for recommending us to others who have been looking for care services, we really appreciate that.

We had help from Home Instead from late November 2020 to end of January 2021. My husband had been in hospital for 4 months, initially for a hip replacement but complicated by dislocations and a broken leg. My husband was matched to two male carers and it was a most felicitous choice. Both were excellent
- kind, caring and willing to do anything to help.
One particularly bonded over a shared taste in Japanese films and art! And both were fully accepted by the real boss of our house, Chicken the cat. They'd come at 9.30am shower and shave him, and after clearing up the shower room would often hang out laundry, help change sheets and make the bed. Their support and help meant he gained in confidence and had a chance to move around with trusted support.
He has improved considerably since coming home so we now think we can manage on our own. However, I have Home Instead in my address book and will have no hesitation in contacting them again if necessary.
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for your review. We are so pleased that we were able to help your husband's recovery and delighted to hear that you will come back to us if ever you need support in the future.

Home Instead took us on at very short notice. All the carers they provided, to be awake at my wife’s bedside from 8.00 pm to 6.00 am, were loving, compassionate and professional, and helped me as well. All of the carers assigned to care for my dad are mature and knowledgeable. Their visits are regular as clockwork and they work very hard to make sure that Dad is treated with great empathy and dignity. The smartphone app that is available to close relatives is invaluable, keeping close family members
informed of Dad's progress on a daily basis, so that there is no need to put Mum through the stress of letting us all know. Excellent service by lovely people.

I am very pleased with the standard of care provided. Care and support are shown genuine interest in her well being; punctuality is generally good and with three visits every day. Regular carers have become part of our extended family. Overall management seems well organised so that constant staff changes
have minimal impact. As for value for money, this is fine just as long as the money lasts!
Reply from Judy Clay, Owner at Home Instead South LakesThank you for your review. With 2 Caregivers on each visit, 3 times a day, our priority is to maintain a consistent team for your wife and to make sure that any new staff joining the team receive comprehensive training to allow them to deliver the very best care to meet her needs fully. I am glad that you feel we are meeting this objective.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Home Care Provider is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.965 for Home Instead South Lakes is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 114 Ratings = 4.965

  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Home Care Provider does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

This includes checking that all our records are up to date with the relevant paperwork for clients and Care Professionals and doing regular audits to identify any trends and support the team to take actions to improve our processes and systems to make sure we are providing the highest quality care.

When we receive new enquiries for our care services I will talk to the client or their family and discuss how we can best support them. It’s wonderful to know you’re part of finding a solution to enable someone to live a fulfilled life at home. I LOVE our clients, Care Professionals and support team. It really is the best job!
