For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a kind and caring person. That’s just who I am. So being in a job where those traits are not only appreciated but essential is something I feel incredibly lucky for. Whether I’m helping someone get ready for the day, preparing a meal, or simply offering a friendly chat, I love being able to bring a little joy and comfort to someone’s routine.
There’s something incredibly special about home care. Supporting people to remain in their own homes, especially in familiar areas like Stockport, adds a level of reassurance and independence that can’t be overstated. I live in Manchester, but I travel across Cheshire East as part of my role, and I love getting to visit different places. I’ve always considered myself a reliable person, someone people can count on, and that’s something I bring into every Client visit. Whether I’m helping with daily routines, supporting someone on an outing, or just being a friendly face to chat to, I take pride in showing up and making someone’s day just that little bit easier.
What I love most about being a Care Assistant is the variety and the people. I get to meet so many individuals from all walks of life, and I’m constantly reminded how powerful human connection can be. Whether I’m exploring local trails or powering through a city run, I always feel recharged afterwards. I also really value time with friends, whether we’re out for a bite to eat or just catching up over a brew, it’s those small moments that matter.
And if I were ever stranded on a desert island? I’d be taking crisps. No question. I’d probably miss a lot of things, but I know I couldn’t survive long without a salty snack or two!
Though I’m still new to the care sector, I’m learning every day, and I’m so proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares. The support and training I’ve received from Right at Home have been amazing, and I already feel like I’ve found my place. For me, making a difference, no matter how small, is what it’s all about.
