Young carers far immature. Can't even boil a couple of potatoes. Caring to them seems to be ticking boxes. Sometimes doing their log more important than caring.

Thank you for your feedback which we take very seriously and will be considering with our Management Team. These points had not been brought to our attention so that we could have addressed them at the time of the service being provided, but please rest assured we will consider how to improve on your specific experience.

I can 100% endorse this company of dedicated caregivers. They explained clearly all aspects of care that were to be given and when the care package was set up, the carer chosen could not have been better. Genuine unhurried care was given with laughter and good humour. Communication, when needed, was timely and the flexibility to review her care was brilliant. Thank you.

From listening to a lovely lady from Home Instead some years ago, a carer in bed, to a friends recommendation - when I need help/support, Home Instead was my first point of call. Our first visit was to assess our need and marrying up a senior carer. We have not been disappointed, so well matched, both being comfortable, happy and getting along well. It is good to know staff get trained, so when more help is needed can soon be stepped up. The company managers/reception keep in touch making sure all is well and letting us know they are always there to support. Everyone is friendly and helpful.

I work in older people's mental health services and am a carer for my elderly mother. After she had a nasty fall, we needed to find carers and our consultant at work suggested Home Instead. We've had them for a few weeks now and so far they have been excellent. They were able to start quickly and the ladies that come daily are so kind and friendly. It's been such a relief to find reliable carers in what felt like a minefield.

The carers are friendly, support me very well. They come on time. My concerns are listened and acted upon.

I feel staff should be first aid trained as some of my carers said they haven't been.

Reply from Maria Collins, Director at Home Instead (Luton & Central Beds)

Thank you for your positive review which we appreciate and will share with our teams. Addressing your concerns about 'first aid training for our staff' - due to COVID our life support training, including CPR had to be provided in a different format, with this moving to online learning modules...

On the whole, I'm quite pleased with my care from Home Instead. My carers are all polite, caring and considerate. My main concern is that I am not always informed when my carer is changed. I don't agree with them using the time I'm paying for to write up their notes.

Reply from Maria Collins, Director at Home Instead (Luton & Central Beds)

Thank you for your feedback which is very valuable. We will take note of your comments about communication within our continuing improvement plan. Our CAREGivers are required to always complete a record of their visit and as such must do that within the time allocated for being present in your property.

My friend lived alone until March 2021, she is 94, with problems with hearing, sight and mobility. We have used Home Instead for last 2-3 years and this enabled my friend to be cared for as much as possible. She likes the carers who pre covid took her to mass and to shops, helping her to maintain independence for as long as possible. I would 100% recommend their services. Having had previous experience of other care services which no way came near to the high standard of Home Instead.

An improvement would be a regular team when possible. All carers should be tested on their ability to do domestic tasks.

Reply from Maria Collins, Director at Home Instead (Luton & Central Beds)

Thank you for your review which we take very seriously which has already been shared with our Management Team and relevant CAREGivers. We acknowledge your positive rating of our service and will be addressing the specific issues relating to domestic tasks. All of our dealings with Home Instead have been kind, caring and respectful whether it is the person who answers the phone or the carers who visited. The care and attention my dad receives was professional and friendly, plus trustworthy. We used the sitting service and the carer always turned up on time.

My clinical practice over the years has helped forge strong personal and professional values that are in line with Home Instead’s core value of client-centred care.

My personal experience of looking after a parent with dementia, as well as my professional work as a specialist in dementia care, has allowed me to understand the importance of promoting the client’s independence and ability to make choices, even in the face of the odds and challenges they might be facing, as a consequence of poor health.

My experience and values from clinical practice will be brought to bear in providing overarching leadership to the franchise as it continues to further its vision of providing care to the highest standards, in our local communities of Hitchin, Letchworth, Stevenage and surrounding towns and villages.

My Why: was my dad. When I was young, every school holiday I used to go to work with him and help. Christmas days were spent at the care home dishing up dinner and giving out presents, whilst my mum was cooking our dinner. It gave me a passion for this industry, which never went away and was always what I was going to do.
