As my Dad's mobility and health deteriorated we progressively brought in care for him so that he could remain in his bungalow. Home Instead were absolutely brilliant and filled all the care requirements that Dad needed. Eventually Dad required 24/7 care and so a live in carer was provided. The live in carer was brilliant and could not have been more considerate and caring. I have only complete praise and thanks for the way Home Instead responded to my Dad's care needs. The office staff also have my thanks and praise for the way in which they responded to our care requests, especially as sometimes when there were unexpected circumstances, the office staff immediately responded and this meant that Dad was never without the care he needed.

We have had two excellent carers over the time and in particular the one who stayed with us for most of the time. Management did respond to our requests to keep our carer when a change was mooted, otherwise difficult to assess value for money is difficult to assess but we are concerned that the actual carers do not receive a fair distribution of the charge.

Reply from Lee Harrington, Director at Home Instead (Aylesbury Vale and North East Oxfordshire)

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you do not feel the caregiver was remunerated correctly. We pay all our caregivers very well, and our rates are substantially above the market average. This is also reflected in our very low staff turnover.

After several falls it was clear that help was needed on a daily basis. The daunting task of finding carers was helped by recommendation from friends who were using Home Instead for their parents.
The initial contact was very easy and all the information required was obtained from the friendly and knowledgeable manager.
After the initial home meeting, things were soon set up and have continued to run smoothly.

We have been very impressed with the kindness and professional care that is being provided on a twice-daily basis.

The carers I have looking after me support me and are always there for my needs.
I highly recommend they all know their roles and complete them with satisfaction.
They help me to do jobs I can not do myself.
They support me with good companionship and listen to what I require, I could not be without them.

Thank Home Instead carers.

Home Instead have provided very sympathetic and reassuring companionship care for my sister who is the early stages of dementia. She was very anxious about how it would work but her carer has developed a great rapport with her. The regular visits have brightened her life and allowed her to get out and about. Since my sister has moved into a care home we have continued with the visits, this helped smooth the transition into her new life and she really enjoys being taken out for a walk or a drive.

The care coordinator picked up on my sister’s needs and found the right person, the admin is straightforward and I have had helpful feedback.

Home Instead, Aylesbury Vale, has been providing excellent care for my husband who is almost bedridden since he came out of hospital in October 2022. They come for an hour every morning to shower and dress him then give him his breakfast. I cannot speak highly enough of their professionalism. They are also cheery and good-humoured so he looks forward to the visit. If I have to request a change of schedule for example, the office staff are prompt and courteous and work hard to satisfy my requests. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Home Instead.

The daunting experience of contacting and meeting a Care Provider was made easy by the Home Instead representative. From the initial consultation to the introduction of carers, the support has been immediate and reassuring. The carers' abilities to bring the right level of company and comfort has been in evidence from the first visit. We can't imagine a better introduction to a care team.

Until Home Instead started a care package for my husband, I had no life except being his carer. Now I have regular respite and it is wonderful for me and for him. The carers are, without exception, dedicated, cheerful and uplifting. From the word go the manageress in Aylesbury has been so helpful. The staff member in the scheduling department has gone out of her way to accommodate extra slots and is entering in what must be a very challenging job of meeting ever-changing patient needs and a large workforce.

I take comfort in knowing that as my husband's dementia gets worse, Home Instead are there to support me. Thank you Home Instead, the staff and my husband's carer.

We are so impressed with the care and support for my mother from the whole Home Instead team. They worked hard to put care in place to enable my mother to come out of hospital after a fall in 2022, and then to learn about her preferences and wishes. This is a highly person-centred approach. They have responded so thoughtfully as her needs have changed over the months. They listen to us as her family too. My mother was in hospital again over Christmas and we had brilliant support from those on duty, who were there for us every time we called and put everything in place to get her home again on Boxing Day. Currently my mother's health is deteriorating further; we have every confidence that the team will continue to keep her as safe and comfortable as possible

We turned to Home Instead after my mother's increasingly challenging Alzheimer's started to cause safety and comfort issues at home and she needed help for her daily living.
Initially 2x2 hours a day for a social, companion, domestic and cooking service, this gradually extended but jumped to nearly 24/7 after my mother broke her hip in March and needed an extensive aftercare package.
Home Instead rose to this massive challenge within 7 days of her falling, with care far beyond that I was expecting, especially from her 3 main carers. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them, and Mum quickly found close friendship and respect both given and received, almost without limit.
As her illness progressed and Mum's ability to achieve her previously normal tasks diminished, the care given seemed to multiply without fuss, complaint or me asking and with the greatest respect given to my precious mother.

That her main 3 carers were with me at her gentle passing, even when not on duty, speaks vividly for their care, compassion, respect and understanding and I will be eternally grateful for their huge contribution in easing the challenges of my mum's last 2 years of life.

We have been delighted with the service and support we have had from Home Instead for my father, now aged 98. We have had a carer visit every weekday since January 2023 and he really looks forward to seeing them. They have always been professional in their approach no matter whether it's checking his medication, preparing his lunch, or just having a friendly chat.

I am very grateful for the support and care provided to my nan at very short notice. The care manager went above and beyond to put end-of-life care in place for my nan which was sadly for a short period of time. From office staff to carers the support and care my family and my nan received was excellent from start to finish. I would recommend Home Instead (Aylesbury Vale) to anyone who needs support to continue to be living at home.

Meet the Team (6)

Fay Sinclair Job Title: Care Manager Joined: 2019
Fay Sinclair

My name is Fay Sinclair and I have been working in the care sector since 1998. Over these years I have gained knowledge and experience working in many different areas of care such as child welfare, Residential care, and working with people living with dementia. I love to care for individuals in our community by supporting them and encouraging them to live happily in their own homes. My passion for care in the community informed my decision to permanently move to Domiciliary care in 2003.

I joined Home Instead Aylesbury Vale and North East Oxfordshire in May 2020 as a Senior Care Professional. The values and beliefs held by Home Instead, particularly those in supporting individuals in our local community and offering truly person-centred care represent what I stand for. This enables me to thoroughly enjoy my job on a daily basis. Home Instead is where I have decided I want to grow my career as quality is never compromised and the team are highly professional in everything that they do.

Since joining Home Instead, my professional journey has developed as I quickly achieved moving into a Team Leader role and then onto being the Deputy Care Manager. The company have fully supported my professional development through sitting a Level 3 in Health and Social Care through this part of my journey.

In the summer of 2022, I started feeling that I could do more and set my sights on becoming the Care Manager. The owners have fully supported my ambition and my studies for Level 5 in Health and Social Care. In doing so I have stepped into my current role as a Care Manager. There is a lot to learn but one of the things I’ve learnt by being at Home Instead is that we are always learning. If it’s not learning something new then it’s learning to improve.

I can’t express how happy I am doing what I do with Home Instead but I can say that I’m very excited and looking forward to a continued career with Home Instead.

Julija Pavelko Job Title: Senior Care Professional Joined: 2020
Julija Pavelko

My name is Julia, and I joined the Home Instead family in August 2020 as a Care Professional. I didn’t think that I could start afresh with a new career but having worked with Home Instead and realising that the owners were very supportive of development, I started considering building my career here.

Since joining, I’ve been fully supported to complete my Level 2 in Health and Social Care and have more recently started my Level 3 in Health and Social Care. I’ve also successfully been promoted to a Senior Care Professional role. I am very proud of my achievements and am very happy to be working with an organisation that puts client care at the heart of what we do. I really enjoy what I do. I love providing hands-on care in the community and supporting our Care Professionals in doing their fantastic work.

I used to work with children so providing care to a different age group was completely new to me. Home Instead taught me how to help and support individuals in the community in a way that enhances their quality of life. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with great clients and amazing colleagues, and I am excited about my future with Home Instead.

Matthew Coombs Job Title: Recruitment & Business Administrator Joined: 2023
Matthew Coombs

My name is Matthew Coombs. I joined Home Instead Aylesbury Vale & Northeast Oxfordshire in January 2023 as a student on a placement year, to gain some physical experience of how a business works, and to support my learning in business management. After my placement year, I have continued with Home Instead as the lead Recruiter.

Home Instead does some amazing work with its clients in their local community. I am proud to say I am part of such a positive organisation, working to change the face of ageing. It is uncommon to find a company that is such a great match for your values, so I cannot be happier at Home Instead.

The customer is right at the heart of what we do here at Home Instead. Our client-oriented approach allows us to provide meaningful and relationship-led lead care with professionalism. Everyone at Home Instead shares the same values of delivering quality care in people's homes, enabling them to get the most out of their daily living. The Home Instead Care Professionals always put the client at the centre of what they do, making a difference through the care they provide. Working alongside such an amazing team motivates me within my role, and I could not be happier supporting our Care Professionals.

As a student placement, I was given the opportunity to develop with the team and really get involved with the organisation. The responsibilities I was given were great for my personal and professional development. This motivated me to strive to improve myself and build upon the work which I do, to enable Home Instead to work towards their vision of expanding the world’s capacity to care. Since my student placement, this motivation has remained the same. The core Home Instead values are embodied across the organisation. The role of lead Recruiter has allowed me to meet some remarkable people who do incredible work for others. I look forward to coming to work each day in the knowledge that I am part of such a great organisation, where I can play my part in making a positive difference.
