Overall Experience

Mums care, was good when she had her first year of care, I felt relieved to know mum was happy, as I often pop in when I can, after school runs, and spending more time with mum, when I can. There are a few carers who mum feels comfortable with. I looked after mum in my own home, along with my husband helping, when he wasn't working. We looked after mum, just over a year and half. Mum been in different hospitals after suffering a stroke. My brother and me decided to have carers, to hopefully give me and my husband, and the rest of the family a much needed rest. This year, has been stressful, for us all, as the carers seem short staffed, and stressed themselves, mum panicky, as she gets new carers, asking where things are, regular carers few and far between, mum, still in bed yesterday at dinner time, eleven fifty five, having no breakfast, no warm drink. I don't drive, so my brother who had a few hours free from work, drove me from one end of town to other where mum lives. To take over.

I have found out that today for the third time in a row, the carer has not given my Dad the correct medication, despite his needs being explained to them when they made the errors on the second and third times.

Generally, the care is pretty good but the main issue we have is the timing of the calls. When Hales took over it was agreed that Mum likes to get up around 9 am and go to bed around 7.30 pm but the evening call is usually set around 8.30 pm and sometimes even later but usually when we speak to the carers they say they'll try to get here for 7.30 pm. But on the morning calls we can be calling up around 10:15 am asking where the carers are, and on a rare occasion the carers haven't arrived until 11.45 am to get mum up washed and ready by which time I have managed to do it myself as mum will keep asking when can I get up.

I know it may be staffing issues and sickness, with the staff who are working having more work put on them to cover for sickness but it can be frustrating trying to arrange things when you don't know what time the carers are going to turn up.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We're pleased to hear that, overall, you find the care provided to be good. However, we apologise for the issues you've experienced with the timing of your mum's care visits. We value your feedback and are committed to addressing this...

My mum and dad both have very complex needs, the care they get is exceptional and very consistent. The care company have worked so hard over the past years to work with me to get to know my mum and dad's needs so that they can provide the best possible care for them. My mum and dad need the same carers daily because of their condition and even when exceptional circumstances happen the care providers try to accommodate my parents' needs as much as they can and keep to carers who know them. The office staff and carers are so helpful whenever I call and the carers my mum and dad have are lovely people. The carers are very patient, kind and compassionate. I do not know what my mum and dad would do without them.

Unprofessional uncaring and unhygienic. This company advertises as being person-centred. Far from it, inflexible and no consistency. Avoid at all costs. The issues raised were not addressed and management did not attend a meeting that they had arranged.

We find that the lady carers are very helpful and will help in any way they can and nothing is too much trouble to them. They are always willing to help in any way they can, which is helping to keep us in our own home at the moment.

Dreadful company. Staff are treated badly by management, some working impossible hours. Carers turn up at any time of day without prior notice, or not at all for days sometimes. The turnover of staff is worryingly high. Tip: Avoid at all costs.

Reply from Irene Amarante, Digital Media & Marketing Manager at Hales Homecare Sheffield

Thank you for your review the content of which we take seriously. Unfortunately, there are times when a person’s needs change and they can no longer be safely cared for, despite all efforts. Your concerns were fully investigated at the time the issues were raised last November. It was decided at...
