My mum was resistent to having carers support her, but almost instantly, they were the people that she looked forward to seeing, and relied on in the mornings. My mum developed relationships of trust and considered the carers as her friends. They took over, with professionalism, the showering of my mum and did it with real compassion and care for her dignity, as she was a very proud and independent person. She very much enjoyed her time at the day centre and used to be so excited about all the activities she had engaged with. It was often the highlight of her week. They shared photos of her there and made my sister and I feel happy that she was in a safe and trusted environment, having fun. We can only thank them.
