Since commencing the service (two visits per week of one hour each) my mother has had c18 different carers. We were told it would be the same 3- 4 people regularly allowing my mother to feel comfortable knowing who was coming and be able to build a relationship with them. Also it would mean not having
to explain everything to a new person every time.
Additionally, the carers arrival time (supposed to be 13:00) varies quite a lot making my mother feel uncertain if someone is going to show up.
My mother is 95 and gets quite anxious - we had hoped regular and reliable help from a familiar face would make a big difference...but the opposite has been the case.
Reply from Katie Rathbone, Customer Experience Specialist at Helping Hands Home Care (Aylesbury)Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are very sorry to hear that your experience has not met expectations. We understand how important consistency and reliability are, especially for your mother, and we regret that this has caused anxiety and uncertainty.
Your comments regarding the number of different carers and the variation in arrival times are taken seriously. We aim to provide regular, familiar faces and punctual visits, and we will review this internally to ensure improvements are made. Please know that your feedback is invaluable in helping us deliver the level of care and reassurance our customers deserve.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We will be sure to share your feedback with the team.

I have used the services of Helping Hands 4 times in the last four years following Knee and Hip replacement operations. Following a period in respite care I still needed assistance with personal care including help with showering and dressing. I found the carers who came to assist me were kind, caring,
helpful, polite and very happy to help me. I looked forward to their visit each morning when they always asked how I was feeling, how I had slept and were happy to have a conversation - they were interested in my plans for the day and news about my family.
They always asked about domestic jobs I needed help with and performed all tasks willingly and efficiently.
I found it helpful to have the support provided by a regular carer so that we built up a relationship. It was also good to have the visit at the same time each day. The administration team was able to change the time slot if I had an appointment necessitating an early visit.
I would happily recommend this service to my friends.

When I needed some additional support for my elderly father, I found Helping Hands online and made contact with them with some apprehension as it was all very new territory for me. However the person who took my initial call was incredibly compassionate but professional. We were then visited by another
impressive member of staff who did an initial assessment and I found her equally reassuring. They promised to match a carer to my Dad's individual needs. I remained nervous about how this would work out as my Dad could be a little difficult and stubborn but the first visit went so very well and it continued to go very well. The carer did her job with my Dad brilliantly but also was a support to Mum and would make her a cup of tea, have a chat and make her feel comfortable too. I have recommended Helping Hands to other people since and have no hesitation in doing so.

Generally we are very pleased with the overall service Helping Hands provide.

See below comments for consideration.

1/ Having calls completed at agreed times as this does differ from one week to the next and my elderly mother is a creature of habit and would prefer times to be common both Saturday

and Sunday.

2/ Keep an eye on food in the fridge best by dates as we continue to have to throw away food that is not being used by the carers.

3/ Washing up and putting away after meals as this is something I have had to do quite often, not all the time but would be helpful.

Many thanks.

Helping Hands have provided care to my daughter with complex medical and learning needs for a few years. They have been the best agency we have ever used for a number of reasons. The office staff are incredibly helpful. They are always pleasant and go out of their way to find extra care at short notice.
The carers are always punctual, professional and have an upbeat attitude. They are willing to do a whole range of jobs, as requested. My daughter has a regular carer, with whom she has built a very good relationship. She looks forward to seeing her and it's lovely to witness the fun and laughter they share. When this carer has not been available (eg due to her annual leave) or we have required extra care, Helping Hands have sent other lovely carers. I would recommend their services without hesitation.

My mum has been poorly recently and the level of concern and care has been brilliant and very much appreciated.
Every carer tries to do there best to encourage her to eat.
They all seem genuinely happy to be there and always greet her in a very upbeat manner.

My brother has had a package of care at home each day. He has Parkinson's and is anxious and depressed. His mobility is impacted.

The managers Had been trying to reach my brother as part of their QA processes and he did not pick up phone and when he finally did sounded distressed and confused.

They were concerned for his safety and wellbeing. By now it was beyond the end of the working day and they decided to drive to his house and check how he was. They also reached me (living away) and I was relieved that they did as it was clear that he was not coping and in personal difficulty. . I witnessed on the phone as they talked to reassure him, made food and attended to his personal needs and called an ambulance. On that day I don't know what we would have done without their help. Professional empathic clear on what needed to happen. Thank you to a particular staff member and your manager - you were absolutely brilliant

Helping Hands have been caring for my mother for over a year. They are very professional, polite and nothing is to much trouble. They adjust to changing circumstance's very quickly and without fuss which makes my families life much easier and of course gives us piece of mind that our mother is getting
the best care possible. Our mother has dementia so the interaction between the visiting cares and our mother is great which stimulates her brain and hopefully slows this awful disease. Their office / liaison staff are truly fantastic, some of the best I have ever dealt with. Although they are all great I must give a special mention to a specific member of staff who is exceptional. I don't usually do review's of anything but I really did feel in this case I must give credit where credit is due. Thank you all at "Helping Hands" for an excellent service.

Excellent care throughout. Almost without exception carers are considerate, caring, resourceful, and efficient. Whilst they will readily undertake the tasks prescribed in the plan, they also go to lengths to identify if any other tasks require doing. Time keeping is for the most part very good. Another
excellent aspect to the service is how the carers make a concerted effort to get to know the clients which makes the visit an enjoyable experience. If there is one area of concern it is that periodically messages to the 24 hour service to cancel a call following hospitalisation have not been passed to the carer, resulting in the carer arriving at the empty property next morning and setting off the security alarm. However, all administration issues are dealt with professionally and promptly the office.

Helping hands have been supporting our parents to live at home for a few years now. They have been amazing. Staff on the phone are always friendly, understanding and aim to meet dad's changing needs. We use other care agencies provided by the council, but dad has insisted that he keeps Helping Hands
carers too as he has a special bond and the carers take time to talk to dad and gently encourage him with all his daily challenges. Thank you especially to those regular carers who have been amazing with dad. You have made such a difference to us all.

Helping Hands provided support for both my dad and more recently, my mum.
I can not recommend Helping Hands highly enough. Without exception the carers have been very kind and attentive. They showed great patience with both my parents. I was impressed with the quality of the relationships they built
with my dad and mum. The carers got to know how my parents liked things to be done, their preferences and their funny ways. The carers provided a whole range of care and support. They helped my parents with personal care, jobs around the house, shopping and social trips. Nothing was too much trouble. I have been equally impressed with the office team. They have a great deal of knowledge and experience. There is always someone at the end of the phone to answer questions and/or give reassurance. Thank you to all you.

Most of the carers are extremely good and there are some who are excellent and go the extra mile. Occasionally there is a carer who really hasn't got the skills for the job. I would prefer there to be a smaller group of carers looking after Dad as he gets very confused if someone new arrives without
an introduction. He has dementia so often can't answer their questions about what to do and this is confusing for him.
The office is responsive and replies quickly to any communications.
I would really like the carers to wear a yellow name badge with their first name on it like NHS and other allied health professionals as Dad can't always see their ID badge and he doesn't remember people's names. However, it is important he knows who they are. I've asked for this since we first started using Helping Hands Home Care a few years ago but nothing has changed.

Nice to have it. Supportive. Get through to the office and talk to them if you want to. Time (hour) goes very quickly. Helps with vegetables. Puts washing on. Makes bed once a week. Little things I can't do. Company as well. They've got to know me.

I think the biggest test is how you remember the carers and the service provided after your loved one has left this earth... being a carer is hard but with the support of Helping Hands and the staff it was made so much easier. From personal care to helping taking my loved one out for day trips, to the
emotional support which the staff gave to me, was totally invaluable. Simply it all made my life a bit easier. As a carer there are times you doubt yourself, but with the kindness shown by the staff at Helping Hands, I had someone to reassure me that I was doing the best. My loved one knew she was in good hands and was so grateful for the literal “helping hands” she received. I felt comfortable knowing that the kind staff were in my home when I wasn’t there. I was appreciative of the support of the competent staff when emergencies occurred and was comforted by the staff as they shared their own grief with me when my loved one died. Would I recommend? Absolutely! Fab company, fab staff!

I cannot rate helping hands high enough. Mum has dementia and the carers visited daily to prepare her a meal, make her a cup of tea and just have a general chit chat. They treated Mum with dignity and respect and Mum actually looked forward to seeing them. My direct contact with the management team
always went smoothly as we had to rearrange visits and times. They also gave Mum her medication and were always on hand to give any advice and help they could offer. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with them at what could have been a very stressful time.

We were looking for help when my 83 year old Dad was discharged from hospital following a couple of falls due to low blood pressure and heart failure. Helping Hands were able to send a manager out within 48 hours of my contact and they started home visits the following week.
Since we started with Helping
Hands 6 months ago, we have been able to reduce from 3 visits a day to two as Dad is gaining some independence. The help he receives for breakfast and lunch each day means that we know he is eating regularly and takes his medication.
Dad enjoys the chats with his regular carers and it means he sees somebody to talk to every day.
The carers will pop to the supermarket as well as do laundry and housework which is an immeasurable help.
I live an hour away and my brother lives abroad so we are happy that we know Dad is being looked after so well in his own home.
I would recommend Helping Hands to anyone who is looking for support in their own home.
