In January 2026 I started looking for some home care for my 86 year old mother who has mixed dementia.

Helping Hands in Salisbury was my first port of call following a recommendation.

I couldn't have been happier with my choice from start to finish. Initially the care was just for 1 hour a day, to help with some cleaning, laundry and just making sure that she was ok, as i could see that mum was starting to need a bit more help. The girls were very personable and friendly, very professional and looked after my mum as if she were family, not just as a client.

The idea was to step up the level of care in April as mums needs were becoming more complex. Sadly, she had to be admitted to a care home just before Easter, initially for respite, but the vascular dementia had started to take such a hold, she could no longer return home, even with the provision of more care.

I would not hesitate to recommend Helping Hands in Salisbury, for anyone looking for an in home care provider.

My brother, sisters and I recently employed the services of the Salisbury branch of Helping Hands to care for our Mum and Dad who are both in their 90's. When I first contacted them, the plan was to simply provide visiting home care for a few hours every other day. However, our Mum had a fall resulting in hospitalisation shortly before the care assessment meeting took place. The Care Co-ordinator swiftly adapted their plan to provide respite cover for 10 hours a day each week. We have found Helping Hands to be professional, reliable, trustworthy with the care provided very much focused on the needs of the individual

The daily visits from the care team helped us gain a clearer understanding of our parents' care needs which were a little more complex that we had realised. I have no hesitation in recommending Helping Hands for visiting care in the home based on our own experience.

My Father's situation is rather unique - he has no living relatives/ friends within close proximity and I live on the other side of the world - I do as much as I can for him but obviously there are times when certain tasks are impossible given the distance between us. Helping Hands have been our lifeline for three years now and continue to be one that we couldn't do without. The need for us to seek support from Helping Hands came on rather suddenly and the Swindon branch couldn't have been more helpful when it came to designing a care plan suitable for Dad's needs - a care plan which has needed to be adjusted accordingly multiple times (sometimes at very short notice) to help Dad cope with the realities of his old age. Helping Hands have consistently gone above and beyond in numerous ways & we cannot thank them enough - particularly Chung (who has become a valued friend to my Dad). Their care gives me the peace of mind I need to know that Dad is safe to continue living in his own home

My terminally ill husband who was extremely private, was reluctant to receive support from anyone else apart from me and our sons but after encouragement from the Prospect and Community nurses, he agreed for carers from Helping Hands, to visit.
The carers started off by visiting once a day but prior to his passing, this had increased to four times a day. The carers were all very kind and compassionate and the quality of care was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and not only did they offer support to my husband, but to me too, encouraging me to take time for myself whilst they were with him.

As a family, we would like to especially pass on our thanks to one carer in particular. This was Bernard who really did go over and above in everything he did. He engaged with my husband throughout and was always ready with a joke and a smile. We really believe that this made a difference particularly during our loved one's final days. Thank you.

Having reached out for some support for my elderly father at the start of the year. I contacted helping hands, within a day they replied and answered many questions that i had.
We set up a plan of support and care which to this day is perfect for all parties concerned. My father looks forward to his outings and 1 to 1 care support. I've noticed the benefits to this great service that helping hands have given not only my father be to us as a family in general.

From phone calls, emails or anything in terms of contact and information sharing they have been so professional. Can't thank them enough. Would recommend them hands down.

Caring for my partner during his six-year decline into dementia was the most challenging time of my life. For his final year, Helping Hands improved the quality of both of our lives by finding meaningful activities for him and giving me much-needed respite. They also cared for my Dad, whose increasing dementia left my Mum overwhelmed. The carers' kind, professional approach transformed both their lives. After losing my partner and Dad, I turned to Helping Hands again when my Mum's needs grew. Their flexibility and expertise have been outstanding as her condition has fluctuated. The carers show such pride in their work and have made numerous suggestions for supporting these three very different people. I've spoken to many others-service users and professionals-who all speak highly of HH. When a relative loses independence, the care world can feel overwhelming and isolating. The Calne team have made such a difference to our lives, and I can't speak highly enough of them.

I have used Helping Hands on and off since 2024. I am grateful being given their telephone number and since the first time they started helping me I can sincerely say that I have been looked after and helped with smiles and a genuine reason to do what I would ask of carers, including taking me for hospital appointments and being with me for a week so that I was safe. I am glad I have them.

Due to a bad reaction to codeine, I was feeling very unwell and disorientated and pressed my button for help. Despite the date being 24/12 Helping Hands when advised found someone to call to help me spending quite a time feeding me and settling me down. The next day was Christmas Day but they rang me to check on my state and decided I needed some help and again found a carer for me. She gave me some medical advice not to take the strong doses of codeine which I had been prescribed. She was right and the symptoms gradually improved over the next few days. However Helping Hands also rang me the next day to check on my position. I consider this to have been a wonderful example of their caring for their clients when the client was in trouble. It gave me a great deal of confidence in the company, that they would look after me in problem times.

Helping Hands Home Care took care of Mum from April 2022 to November 2024 until she passed away at home. I really don't have words for the amazing way that all staff helped Mum through such a difficult time of her life. They were the only company at the time who could help us to keep Mum at home where she desperately wanted to stay, as hospital terrified her. All staff treated Mum with dignity and respect. They ensured that she felt comfortable and supported at all times. Helping Hands were a life line not only to Mum but also Dad as the primary carer. The daily visits gave Dad another focus during the day and much needed company. The staff became part of the family. The way in which they supported the family during Mum's last week was just incredible. They were able to provide cover all day so that Dad and I could have a rest and Mum had someone with her at all times. They sat with Mum, talked and read to her. I cannot thank Helping Hands enough and will be eternally grateful to them all.

I have been using Helping Hands Home Care (Chippenham) for almost a year for my elderly aunt and have been very impressed with what they do.
My aunt was initially resistant to taking in help, despite needing to, however they made her feel very comfortable and feel able to retain a sense of independence.
Fantastic communication between the managers and myself, allowing me to easily work with them in resolving trickier issues, giving me peace of mind.

They go above and beyond in what they do, treating my aunt as though she was a member of their own family.

Mym has been supported by Helping Hands Home Care for 18 months. Her mobility, dementia and general health deteriorated significantly over the last 6 months. Her carers have shown patience, empathy and kindness throughout. This was particularly shown up to her hospitalisation and passing in June. They were so caring and went the extra mile in their support. I cannot praise them enough.

Helping Hands have been superb as our mother has travelled that painful journey from being fully independent to needing more and more care. The whole team has been amazing from the first meeting with the manager - that was very reassuring and immediately put Mum at ease that this was a caring, well trained and professional care provider, to her regular carer who just clicked with Mum, was very competent, compassionate and most importantly cared.

Without Helping Hands Home Care my father would be in a home. They are the only company who accepts rural visits. The staff are bright, friendly, professional and deal with father, who is often challenging in behaviour, in an excellent manner. The management is flexible to changing needs, increasing visits or postponing times. I have nothing but admiration for them.

I don't normally complete this kind of review but I am doing this because I consider the service of Helping Hands to be very good in every respect. My only criticism is the cost which will undoubtedly deter many people from getting the help they need and lead to more clients entering residential care or hospital, thus bed blocking.
